    Firat leg of five days in Singapore

    First stop on our journey was Brisbane to Singapore. We left Brisbane in the pouring rain, but arrived in Singapore in very fine weather. The trip was uneventful and very smooth. Arriving at Singapore airport was an eye opener. The airport was vast! Huge open areas and many carousels for the incoming plane loads of people.

    We departed the airport via an MRT train to Tiong Bahru which was to take 40 minutes. The train ride was an eye opener, with the carriage packed to capacity. Absolutely no room, with people jammed in. No seating, standing room only. Surprisingly the ticket cost $2.50 and can be used three times on buses and trains.

    Leaving the train we were to walk about ten minutes to our hotel. Bob chose the Nostalgia Hotel, a small boutique hotel, with a small outside eating/drinking area next to a main road. Funnily enough the road noise is minimal, and the atmosphere is worth it. People staying in the hotel can sit outside and enjoy fresh air, breakfast and all day dining.

    Orchard road, Singapore

    This morning we had a leisurely breakfast waiting for the rain to stop. Finally it cleared around 10:30am and off we taxied to Orchard Road. This was a sentimental journey as we had visited 30 Years or so previously.

    It was very busy with traffic and people, with many changes notably the underground walk through under intersections. Not having to negotiate busy roads was brilliant. Bob needed to check out the newly opened Apple store which was so large and spacious with multiple levels. There was a group of very ping children taking lessons on one of the upper floors. The space was amazing with some fabulous images on an enormous all screen. We looked through some of the large department stores and after having a coffee decided to go back to the hotel.     Sentosa Island

    Commenced the day as usual at our hotel for breakfast. Because the action doesn't start until 10:00 am we caught a cab down to the Vivo centre which is near the cruise ship terminal. We boarded the monorail to visit Sentosa Island.

    There are three stations, two on the island, so we decided to go all the way to the last stop and wander back towards the golf club. When we came to the island 30 years back the golf course was all that was here. Now it's a fun destination with sky diving, Universal Studios and much more.

    Just having an orange juice to gather strength to explore what the island has to offer. More later    Read more
