• Los Tarrales-La Rinconada

    10 februari, Guatemala ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

After the Owling session on the day before, we decided to skip early morning wake up call and left at half past six for a short trail. We found a pair of White-faced Ground-Sparrows, which cooperated and gave us wonderful looks in the morning light.
After breakfast at La Casona, we explored the Rinconada trail, after a few minutes walking we found a male Violet Sabrewing perched. After a while of enjoying this handsome hummingbird we heard a short whistle call far off in the forest, the call of a Long-tailed Manakin!. Manakins can be tough to get eyes on, so we continued walking the trail looking for this spectacular bird, as we walked, the calls sounded closer, and closer. We reached a spot where we knew looked like the perfect spot for said bird, and effectively, we saw four individuals calling and moving from tree to tree!.

In the evening, we went birding in the ornamental plant plantations looking for sparrows and ovenbirds.
