Goondiwindi (or just “Gundy” to locals) is a chilled-out border town between QLD and NSW. It’s known for its wide streets, friendly vibe, and the legendary racehorse Gunsynd—there’s even a statue of him by the river. The Macintyre River’s a nice spot for a walk or a picnic, especially around sunset. It’s the kind of place where no one’s in a rush, and that suits it just fine. The Botanic Gardens is also worth visiting

Around town, you’ll find classic pub feeds, and a few quirky shops worth a browse. There’s a local gallery, some heritage buildings, and if you’re there in the hotter months, the pool and hot springs are a good shout. It’s not fancy, but Gundy’s got a relaxed charm that makes it an easy stop on a road trip.
