• Caught my first tuna!

    My first Tuna! What a rush it was. You can see that I'm glowing. I had a 50ft handline with a green and a pink squid. The line was tied to the transom and then clothespinned to the lifeline. When I heard it snap I jumped up with energy and yelled to Dave who was sleeping to help handle the boat while I pulled it in. As I grabbed the line and looked overboard I saw a school of a hundred or so Ahi! It was both exhilarating and frightening as I imagined they must have been pissed at me for pulling In their buddy. The army of yellowfin looked like a serious force to be reckoned with. As I pulled the fish up to the boat it barely put up a struggle and I had the sensation that the school and fish had accepted and offered its passing for us to enjoy. Then with one solid swing of the gaff I stuck the giant hook in its head and yanked it aboard. It all seemed surreal and way too easy. Then the bloody mess began.Read more
