    Until the start of the 20th Century the Blackhouses were the usual homes for the people on Lewis- stone base with a thatched roof. They now only housed the family but also animals. Very dark inside with no chimney so the smoke from the peat fire in the centre of the house was extremely unhealthy. Also had a stop at Clach an Trushal, the tallest standing stone in Britain standing at 6 metres high.Read more
