Today we had a very windy visit to Land's End, at the very bottom of England. Also did some exploring on the Western side of Cornwall where the Tin Mining took place.

Jamaica Inn & Smugglers tales!

Rainy again- we're getting used to just putting our raincoats on every time we venture out. Breakfast this morning at the famous Jamaica Inn which was used by smugglers in Cornwalls smuggling past & also as the settling for Daphne Du Maurier's novel by the same name. Took a walk through the smuggling museum before heading to Torquay.En savoir plus

I farewelled Betty & Al at Heathrow after our 4 months on the road! What a fantastic time we've had together. Bek & I are now spending some lovely family time in London with Ross & Kimberly, Ellen has come down from York Uni for the weekend and we caught up with Nathaniel at his work this morning. So great to see them all before we head off to the USA for a month's travel. Always so much to see and do in London. Yesterday- the start of our theatre time! Beginning with Aladdin yesterday- it was great. Today John Soane Museum- interesting and then off to the British museum for the afternoon.En savoir plus

AllHallows Eve is Halloween so we have now learnt the art of pumpkin carving. (Apparently started in Ireland where they carved turnips then the Irish immigrant took this to America). Cleaning out the inside was- MESSY.En savoir plus

London highlights

We've had a wonderful couple of days in London. Buckingham Palace, Harrods, Hummingbird Bakery, my favourite museum- The V & A, 2 more shows- 42nd Street (loved this!) and American in Paris.

Bek & I had a great day day in London- London Eye & then the theatre 'An American In Paris' - loved it. Thanks London Gilmour's for a wonderful stay- we'll miss you all. Thanks Kim for the early morning coffee this morning and Ross driving us to the airport. Adventures in Boston

While Meaghan & Bek walked the Freedom Trail (I'd walked this a couple times on previous trips) I had my own adventure on the train out to the LL Bean store- train delayed, hopped on the wrong train- found myself bound for Philadelphia!, then after I finally arrived couldn't find my way back to the train station to return to Boston- not sure if this met my criteria of 'having fun' but I did buy a couple of LL Bean treasures! Afternoon then spent looking through the historic Gibson House on Beacon Hill.En savoir plus

Go the Boston Bruins- we think Bruin is a bear. We're surrounded by Yellow yelling supporters as the Boston home team played (dismally according to the colourful comments yelled from the guy behind us) the away New York team who won 3 goals to 2. Great night at the ice hockey 🏒En savoir plus

New York from the Hudson!

Early starry up to the Top of the Rock- Rockefeller Centre, on the way to the ferry we visited the Navy Museum on went on board the aircraft carrier Intrepid. I've never been on anything like this before- absolutely huge! Also has the space shuttle Enterprise, then over to the Ferry- first stop Battery Park. We spent some time at the 9/11 Memorial then back on the ferry to see the Statue of Liberty. It's overcast and freezing cold today.En savoir plus
