    Southampton

    October 2, 2016 in England ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

As we are on a back to back cruise out of Southampton 🇬🇧 we decided to have a walk over to the city centre, which looks like a nice shopping area, with the new West Quay Shopping Mall, and the busy main street which is mainly pedestrianised, which is a plus.
I didn't get a really good look around as Sheila was with me and she can't walk far.
But I did notice some parts of the old city walls that have been discovered.
So the next time I get a chance, I'm definitely going to explore Southampton a lot more.

  • Vigo, Spain

    October 4, 2016 in Spain ⋅ 🌙 13 °C

Didn't get off as the weather forecast was for rain ☔ which in the end didn't appear, 😡, so much for the ship's information.
Anyway I've been to Vigo 🇪🇸 many times before, and no doubt will go again.

  • Darren Day, what a revelation!

    October 6, 2016, North Atlantic Ocean ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Last night Sheila and Sue decided that they wanted to see the headliner act in the theatre.
It was Darren Day, who as you might know had a very bad reputation a few years ago.
Anyway off we trot to the theatre to see him.
He was brilliant! He was very open and honest about his past, and said that this was a second chance for him, and he was grabbing it with both hands and not going to make the mistakes of his past.
It turns out that he's a very good singer, he did some swing stuff and some musical theatre stuff, all of which was great.
But to me his impressions are his real talent, they are mainly impressions of singers, and he did everyone from, Sammy Davis Jnr, to Liam Gallagher from Oasis.
He told some fascinating stories about his career and his showbiz life.
He also told some funny and moving stories about the Big Brother house and especially David Guest.
The hour long show received a well deserved standing ovation
All round one of the best shows I've seen on Royal Caribbean.

  • Las Palmas, Canary Isles

    October 8, 2016 in Spain ⋅ 🌙 21 °C

Although a lovely place, the city of Las Palmas, in Gran Canaria was not that interesting.
Maybe if I'd hiked the 5km down to the cathedral it might have been a bit more interesting.
But having said that, it is a nice, clean, and I thought safe place to wander around.
It's just me wanting historical stuff to see.
Speaking of history, there is a replica of the Nina right by the port.
The Nina is one of the ships that Christopher Columbus, sailed to discover America, not that he was planning to discover America, he was just going to see what was there.
I do know that there where three ships on the journey, the Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria.
Anyway the one by the port is a replica of the Nina as I said.
And when you see the size of it you realise that the people who sailed it across the Atlantic where either very brave or completely nuts, I personally think that they where a bit of both.
Surrounding the Nine there are lots of palm trees 🌴 and there was an old bloke throwing rocks at the branches. I went over to see what his was doing and it turns out that he was knocking the palm fruit out of the tree and collecting it.
I asked him what it was, but he didn't speak English.
Using sign language and a couple of English words, I got to understand that the fruit was good to eat.

  • Teneriffe, Spain

    October 8, 2016 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

My god did I over indulge last night or what?
We got a deal for chefs table, so six of us went.
The way it works is you have about six courses and with each course you have a different wine to compliment the food.
The food was nice, but the wine was brilliant.
But now I am rough and feeling sorry for myself, lol.
Needless to say, I didn't get off at Santa Cruz, Tenerife today.
As with the other ports I've missed on the trip, I've been many times before, so nothing really missed.

  • A Coruña, Spain

    October 11, 2016 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

Raining ☔ so I didn't get off again.
Not been one of the best cruises for visiting the ports, either the weather was not good, or sometimes I just could not be bothered to get off the ship as I'm all cruised out to be honest.
Getting these last few points for our pinnacle status has actually been hard work.
I know I probably sound ungrateful, as some people cannot cruise at all, but we've just done to many to quickly.
