  • Akagera Nationalpark - Big five

    August 9, 2021 in Rwanda ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Akagera National Park is located in eastern Rwanda along the border with Tanzania. Covering about 1,120 km², it features savannahs, lakes, and wetlands. Unlike Rwanda’s rainforest parks in the west, Akagera offers a classic African safari landscape with elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, lions, leopards, and many antelope species. After heavy poaching and conflict in the 1990s, wildlife populations have been successfully restored. Today, the park stands as a model of conservation and eco-tourism in East Africa.Read more

  • Roadtrip around Akagera Nationalpark

    August 10, 2021 in Rwanda ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

On our road trip to Akagera, we traveled with our guide Eric, who seemed to know every hill and every story along the way. The road took us past shimmering rice fields, where farmers worked in the paddies, and into the heart of rural Rwanda. When we stopped in a small village, we were probably the first white visitors to pause there — and instead of just looking in, we were welcomed in. With Eric translating, we gained insights into community life: how families share work in the fields, how children walk long distances to school, and how local traditions still shape daily routines.

It wasn’t just a trip to the park — it was a glimpse into the living culture behind the landscape.

  • Nyungwe Forest National Park

    August 15, 2021 in Rwanda ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

isiting Nyungwe Forest National Park in Rwanda was one of the highlights of my trip. The park is a lush, untouched rainforest, alive with the sounds of birds, primates, and rushing streams.

The canopy walkway was the standout experience—swaying high above the treetops with endless green stretching to the horizon. I spotted black-and-white colobus monkeys leaping through the branches and heard chimpanzees calling in the distance.

Hiking the trails felt like stepping back in time: waterfalls hidden deep in the forest, orchids clinging to mossy trees, and guides sharing stories about local traditions and medicinal plants.

If you go, bring sturdy shoes (it gets muddy!), start early for chimpanzee tracking, and don’t miss the canopy walk—it’s pure magic.
