Stayed in a basic but excellent value for money small family hotel in the old fortified town. Tin and Nok took great care of us. See comments on each photo.

Still further North near the "golden triangle" where opium poppies are grown in the Thai, Burma, Laos border area. All a bit simpler, more basic and poorer.

Tried to buy a guide to the Summer Palace. The shop in the palace ... closed. The book shop in town ... closed. Last chance the Monument book shop in the airport ... closed! Such an entrepreneurial spirit!

Surprisingly no fireworks but as a local said "It's not the Cambodian New Year!? This procession was fun but caused total chaos with the traffic for quite some time.

Capital city and a bit more lively and industrious. But there is no public transport!? Plenty of tuk tuk though. Prices are mostly in US $ if not you're probably in the wrong part of town!

When this prison was liberated the last 14 prisoners had been killed before the guards fled. They are buried in white graves in front of building A. There are photographs of how they were found in each room of building A in the background.

Barbed wire surrounding the prison. There was no-one to hear their screams as the whole city had been cleared in a matter of days. Forced to work on the land about which they knew nothing.

This is the focal point for Buddhism in the city. However, it's all new as so much was destroyed by the Khmer Rouge.

This museum has the best display of Khmer statuary, which vital to re-establish their cultural heritage after the atrocities of the 1970s.

A magnificent statue of the Hindu god Vishnu. It stands nearly 3 metres tall and has a real presence.
