• Gifberg Pass and St Helena Bay

    2 Eylül, Güney Afrika ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

Did the Long Flower Route on Maskam Guest Farm and then The Gifberg Pass. Amazing flowers, dramatic rocks and interesting mountainous scenery.

On the Pass we found a notable historical site, a stone oven or "bakoond," built in 1917 by a local farmer to provide fresh bread daily to the road construction workers building the pass.

Lunch on the road was Provita, Cheese and Crisps 🤣 before making our way to St Helena Bay. Chased one of the Sishon-Saldanha trains which can be up to 4 kilometers long and are among the world's longest production trains. These trains, composed of 375 wagons, transport manganese ore between the Sishen Mine in the Northern Cape and Saldanha Bay.

Sandspoor is a lovely house with everything on hand. A stroll on the private little beach before dinner.
