  • Hurghada to Port Ghalib

    June 15, 2017 in Egypt ⋅ ☀️ 32 °C

3 hours by car from Hurghada to Port Ghalib to get the boat.

Got to love the petrol pump 😐. Not sure if the numbers specify litres purchased or money due 😂.
If it is money due ... Is that Egyptian Pounds, Euro's or British Pounds ... I guess it depends on the rate of the day 😃

    Got to love Africa 😂

  • Dive Day 1

    June 17, 2017, Red Sea ⋅ 🌬 35 °C

Day 1 onboard, 2 dives done and all good.

Now we're sailing South overnight (14 hours 😲) to St John's Caves. Water not as warm as it usually is .. only 27° not 29° 😉

  • Emperor Elite - Week 1

    June 22, 2017 in Egypt ⋅ ☀️ 32 °C

    South & St John's

Nice boat and good crew. Cabin 11 on the top deck a bonus with windows and door open to the outside 😃

Although we had lots of wind and choppy seas the diving was good. However, the viz wasn't great, mostly 5-10m and water temperature around 27/28 degrees.

Fish seem to be less than I remember, but we had a friendly Oceanic White Tip at Elphinstone who stayed with the boats for most of the day - close enough to touch 😲

Spending the next 2 nights on land with no rocking and rolling 😃. Then back onboard on Saturday for the 2nd trip.

  • Emporer Elite - Week 2

    June 29, 2017 in Egypt ⋅ ☀️ 6 °C

    Daedalus and Elphinstone

Had a great 2nd week on Elite, a very well run boat with great crew. Great food, good diving, many laughs and interesting company.

Met divers from countries including Slovenia, Honduras, Holland and the UK.

Although the viz was still not great, we saw loads of Hammerheads at Daedalus Reef 😲

What an amazing bunch of guys 😊

Mustafa 😎, Khalil 😆 and Zizo 😃 kept the boat running like clockwork always with a smile and a "Can do" attitude. ⏰

Captain Mahmoud Hassan took us from site to site safely, even when the seas sent everyone scurrying for the "anti-seasick medication" ⛲😵😳

The chef's produced food that a Michelin Chef would be proud of in the confines of their tiny galley, all done with a smile 🍰🍡🍜🍕

The Saloon managers set and cleared the tables for meals, served all the meals and kept the cabins and saloon and dining room clean. 🍴🍷🍵

The Seamen and mechanic were always busy doing something. If they weren't assisting the divers kitting up or un-kitting after a dive, they were dashing around in the Zodiac's ferrying divers to and from their dives. They were continuously hosing down the decks and literally scrubbing the boat down. In my opinion, their most daunting task was jumping into the water at each mooring site (often in pitch darkness) to tie the mooring lines ⚓. Nobody ever had a long face and smiles were all we ever saw 😊

All this was while they observed their holy month of Ramadan 😲

Did you know that Egypt has their very own Vin Diesel better known as Said? He'd definitely be able to stand in for Vin doing voice overs. He just needs some tattoos and bigger muscles 😂

I learnt 2 Arabic words on this trip .. not sure of the spelling ☺. HARAMI which means "thief" and SADIKI which means "friend".

I made new SADIKI on this trip 😃
