    My first activity of the day was the tea ceremony at a nearby hotel. After that, I headed to the coast. I felt a little naughty coming here, but I just had to visit the world famous Black's Beach during my free time after the tea ceremony and before dinner with Megumi. To get to Black's Beach, I first went to the Torrey Pines Glider Port, and then I hiked down a trail built into the cliffside.

    A worldly wise gay man once told me that the gay section at any major beach would be on the far end after you turn right. Once on the beach, I turned right and walked the entire length to the north, and true enough, the gays were at the far end! I turned around when I reached a rocky outcrop.

    The beach itself was wide and spectacular. What made this beach different from others I have visited were the cliffs, gliders above the cliffs, and the turboprops pulling banner ads.    Read more

    After meeting Kate for brunch, I had a few hours free before the wedding. I first drove to UCSD - where Jeff went to undergrad before he transferred to UCLA - and snapped a few photos for Jeff. After that, I drove to Del Mar and did a short hike above Torrey Pines Beach. The highlight of this hike were the wildflowers along the trail. I would have liked to have gone on a proper hike on one of the trails, but I was concerned about making it to the wedding on time, so I didn’t venture beyond this short trail.Read more

    Lilian's wedding was held at Valley Vista Country Club, which was about a 40 minute drive from La Jolla. The Anderson School contingent comprised of myself, Megumi, and Steph. I really enjoyed reconnecting with them.Read more

    On my way back to LAX, I spent a couple of pleasant hours reconnecting with my UCLA classmate Heather and her husband Evan, and getting to know their teenagers Ainsley and Graeme. I loved how easily the conversation flowed, and I especially liked that Ainsley and Graeme interacted so effortlessly with an adult they barely knew. They certainly weren’t your typical sullen teenagers.Read more
