      Part of the pride

      March 6 in South Africa ⋅ ☀️ 40 °C

We have been incredibly lucky so far, with two very unique sightings of lions, but they are still one of those sightings that we hope for ardently.

So when Avron spotted one on the other side of a dried up riverbed (Confirming his title of lion-spotter), we parked in the shade to observe them.

And the more we looked, the more there were! With young ones, even cubs! Around 10 overall.

But the real excitement happened when the original lioness started crossing the riverbed in our direction, disappearing for a little while under its edge, to reappear meters from our car!

It turns out that the big tea trees on our side have more shade than their bushes and so, one after the other, most of the pride crossed over to plop themselves close to us, with the original lioness clearly standing guard between us and the nursery.
She was so close that we only opened the windows once she settled in the sweltering heat and was clearly not bothered by our presence.

We remained there until the whole pride fell asleep again, and then we ducked out as quietly as possible once we had our full of incredible lion close ups.
