Day 26, Lucena to Cabra, 14.4km.
From the Pensión Sara, where Gonzalo served us a hearty desayuno, we made our way to the old Lucena railway station. We left Lucena following the route of the old railway line, the "Tren del Aceite", which linked Jaén to Puente Genil. Although we pass through some industrial estates, it's not noticeable from this Via Verde del Aceite.
We follow this Via Verde almost all the way to Cabra. It's a very pleasant route, virtually flat. There's plenty of shade and beautiful scenery.
At the seventh kilometre, we crossed an iron bridge, the Viaducto Alamedal.
At the Infanta Margarita hospital in Cabra, we are offered a choice. Continue towards Doña Mencía, or turn towards Cabra. We took the latter option. The road that takes us to the centre of Cabra leads past pretty houses to the Parque Alcántara Romero.
From there, the Pension Guerrero, where we're staying tonight, and the Ayuntamiento are close by.
Cabra is a nice town, and we can recommend the Circulo de la Amistad for an excellent meal in a beautifully decorated patio.Read more
