    Another stunning campground with full hookups and full amenities the southern coastal islands of Georgia. Wildlife everywhere and warning sign about the night bandits, so no leaving rubbish outside.

    We had a bit of a sleep in this morning at Jekyll Island so we could get some laundry done in the laundromat there before heading off left around 11 am.

    Pretty cruisy 3 1/2 hour drive down to Cocoa where we are staying at a Boondockers welcome site, which is basically just a home residence of a fellow RV’er as you can see in the pictures, our bus parked next to his caravan or travel trailer as they call them here, and acreage property easy access 10 minutes from Cape Canaveral And the Kennedy Space Centre, so we are gonna spend two nights here and spend all day tomorrow at the Kennedy Space Centre, check all that out and will send you some more pics from there, hope you’re enjoying the tripLeggi altro

    Fuel up Time Again

    After we departed Jekyll Island our fuel gauge was down to about 1/3 of a tank so heading back to the highway i95 and using our diesel fuel app we found a Travel America truckstop to fuel up using our fuel card. Best thing we did before arriving over here was getting one of the diesel RV fuel cards as it gives you up to $0.60 per gallon off the price of diesel and you get to just put the card in at the pump just like a credit card and allows you to fill the tank completely and just bills directly to your bank account.

    That is an absolute godsend, because normally you can only pre-pay $100 at a time before filling, which means backwards and forwards multiple times to fill something this big. Only took 61 gallons so after checking our mileage we have averaged 9.75 mpg, which is amazingly good for something this big, and we are sitting on the interstates doing 70mph.    Leggi altro

    OK, here’s the Lowdown

    Alright now we are set up here in Cocoa near Cocoa Beach close to Cape Canaveral, time to lay down the lowdown on the RV and some of the problems we faced.

    The things in pretty good shape overall however, internal wise it has not been maintained as it should have and we find a list of things wrong that I need to deal with as we’ve been travelling that I just wasn’t happy with, they weren’t major, but having a little bit of OCD little things like rattles and squeaks and noises that I can’t stand in a motor vehicle slowly got fixed one by one. I think Greg is gonna be getting back almost a brand-new RV compared to the one he rented us.
    1. The biggest problem is the hot water service as we couldn’t get any hot water, and over a few days I analysed a few things and tested a few things and had to replace the element in the hot water service, had to replace both thermostats for 12 V and 120 V lines and now we have some fantastic hot water.
    2. Drivers side awning not retracting correctly due to a misaligned controller, after spending some time in fixing that now works a treat.
    3. Main entry door and the fly screen door both rattling like mad while you’re driving along, that sent me around the bend and that had to get fixed with some new packing alignment putting some pressure on locks and now it doesn’t make a sound, lovely.
    4. Wardrobe door in the master bedroom jammed shut, seemed it got damaged by a previous renter and never got repaired so it just got jammed shut. After spending six dollars on a new plastic catch and releasing the door we can now use the wardrobe and hang up our clothes
    5. Main bed slide not working, but once I understood I could release the locking latches we could manually push it out and retract it manually from the outside which gave us a tonne more room in the bedroom.
    6. Main entry motorised step rattling like crazy when driving along, and some of these highways have got a lot of bumps. After some self-adhesive Velcro packing we rectified that as well.
    7. The large convection microwave squeaking and rattling as we are driving along, after closer investigation it was just hanging off its screws about to fall out of the RV, found the mounting bolts under a false floor in the top cupboard and now that’s fixed.

    I can’t think what other ones there were at the moment but I’m sure they’ll come to me and I can add them to the list as we proceed    Leggi altro

    Something we grew up with as kids was the Apollo missions and the moon landings. To be here now and see all this in person is a life long dream. So excited to be seeing where all this occurred here at Cape Canaveral. Today is just awesome and inspiring to see the NASA program continuing.Leggi altro

    Ready for Launch

    Today is a going to be completed with a very special event for us.
    We were originally disappointed that no launches were scheduled during our visit to Kennedy today. You have to be pretty lucky to be there on a day that a launch occurs, and very expensive to go to the launch company viewing area to watch the launch.
    However it seems that all our ducks ended up in a row, because once my mate Elon realised we were there he brought forward a star link SpaceX launch to today just for us. And we have access for free to the Banana Creek Launch Viewing area.
    It is 3 miles from the launchpad which is the safest distance to be at launches. One hour away from launch.    Leggi altro

    What a once in a lifetime event, being at Cape Canaveral when a launch is in progress, also having access to the VIP viewing area at Banana Creek.
    What cannot be expressed in this post is the vibration and thundering sound that came to us 20 seconds or so in, it was absolutely incredible, the video cannot do it justice.Leggi altro

    Summer Crush Winery

    Great location in another harvest hosts venue, free stay, live band, and cold beer. What more could you ask for.
    We’ve attached some video to this one to experience what we have here. There is a massive opportunity in Australia for wineries, breweries, golf clubs etc to provide this sort of thing for RV’ers and make a ton of money. I reckon there is probably 500+ people here today all spending money. 18 sites here for RV’s plus the locals from around the area.

    After a great day yesterday at the winery compliments of our harvest hosts, we made our way back north slightly an hour back to Orlando for our Universal Studios visit tomorrow.

    Booked into this lovely state council park $20 a night check out the pictures attached it’s a great spot, water and power hook up but no sewer, but that’s not a problem toilet block only a hundred metres away if we decide we want it. Great spot.Leggi altro

    Harry Potter World of Wizardry

    Bec has grown up with Harry Potter and as parents of a young 7 yr old we also became devout followers of the cult storyline.
    Passing through the halls of Hogwarts and experiencing the entirety of the town of Hogsmeade and the wizardry with Diagon Alley and the laneways of Nocturn Alley brought so much of the movies to life. Such a wonderful experience.Leggi altro

    Universal Studios Orlando

    All I can say is WOW. There are 3 parks and each one is probably 4 times the size of our Movie World.
    We got express passes so we didn’t have to queue which made it a massive difference. Many of the rides were a little too aggressive for us but we did do some and the girls got absolutely soaked on one of the water rides.Leggi altro

    Spirit of the Swamp

    Now this was an experience to remember, flying along in the fan boats across the swamp Everglades.
    It’s quite eery flying across the water towards what looks like land but isn’t. Really weird. Saw some alligators, and a ton of baby ones maybe 6 months old.

    Oh No!!! -It had to Happen

    A blow out at 75mph. Such fun and excitement in a 28,000 Ib bus.
    Cruising the Florida turnpike at 75 in the passing lane as the massive blowout occurred. Luckily had cleared the other vehicle and the lanes were clear to get straight across to the roadside. Even came up on an emergency pull in bay, so it was an emergency 200 mtr pull-up. All good, then an hour wait for the tyre guys to arrive and replace the tyre.
    Blowout was the inside rear right and severe damage to the wheel well and some brackets and wiring torn out. So far no indication of what the wiring is, as everything appears to be working. Sure it will show up eventually.    Leggi altro

    Key West Boyds Campgrounds

    Our home for the next 3 days is Boyd’s RV Park at Key West. This is a stunning park, only small but so well equiped. Family owned and operated and was established back in 1963 when not much was here other than the Key itself with a lot of Spanish heritage.
    The attached photos don’t do it justice. Totally mixing it with ex Marines, airforce, military personnel retired. Nearby is the Naval Air Base and brings back memories of the sound of military aircraft coming and going.    Leggi altro

    Key West Rooster Town

    In the 1860s during the 10 Year War in Cuba, many Cubans migrated to Key West bringing with them the sport of cockfighting. The roosters found in Cuba were territorial and aggressive, making them perfect for the sport. The sport thrived in Key West until it was outlawed in the late 1970s, leaving cockfighters with roosters they no longer needed. Many of them simply let their once prized roosters go, leaving them to fend for themselves on the streets.
    Nowadays they are protected and it is illegal to touch, feed or harass them in any way.    Leggi altro
