• Final Dinner - Omakase style!

    March 3 in Japan ⋅ 🌧 7 °C

So, for a final dinner in Japan, Darren has set us up right. We were hoping he would be able to join us, as we would have loved to take him out for a final meal. Unfortunately, he’ll be busy hosting our CEO who is in Japan this week for a visit. That being said, Darren got us reservations at a little sushi place near his apartment where he had his birthday dinner last fall. The chef is Brazilian, but also Japanese… he also speaks fluent English along with Portuguese, Japanese and some Spanish!

Darren recommended we do the Omakase - Chef’s choice. I’ve done this once before in NYC with a coworker - we got 12 pieces of sushi and some Sake and it cost me about $400!!! Darren found this place through a foodie blog and they noted it being run by a Michelin chef who had started his own place and that the Omakase menu was outstanding and affordable. You know me, I’m always down for affordable.

A quick train ride and we were there. Leonardo, not the Michelin chef, but his understudy who was Brazilian/Japanese. Darren said he’d take care of us and boy did he. We had a great time letting him choose our Nigiri pieces. Brandon would have loved it. We tried several pieces I would never have ordered, like Shad and Sardine. All of it was yummy, though there were a couple I’m glad I’ve had, but probably won’t order again - Sea Eel and Sea urchin!

Even better, we did a Sake tasting of three different Sake’s they recommended, all delicious. Though when they pulled out the bottle of Untouchable, well, Leonardo put that name to the test and touched it real quick to pour his own glass! That one was definitely my favorite too. At the end of the day, the whole meal ended up being just over $100 and all the fish were procured that morning 🤯. They really know how to do their seafood!
