    On the third day of our Alaska vacation, we took a bus from Anchorage to Seward to board The Regent Seven Seas Explorer, a luxury cruise ship known for its elegance and top-notch amenities.     After an overnight cruise at sea, we began the day with a Culinary Arts Kitchen cooking class with Chef John Stephano.

    At around 2:30 PM, we arrived at the first highlight of our cruise at Hubbard Glacier, a majestic river of ice that captivates the senses with its towering blue walls of ice. Guests are treated to a panoramic view of this natural wonder, while the onboard narrator provides insights into its formation and significance.Read more

  • Sikka, Alaska

    At 8:00 AM the next day, our cruise ship arrived in a small charming town of Sitka with Russian and Native American heritage. Our tour excursion included a visit to The Raptor Center which is a wildlife rehabilitation facility dedicated to rescuing, treating, and releasing injured birds of prey, particularly eagles. Visitors can observe these majestic birds up close, learn about their rehabilitation process, and gain insights into raptor biology and conservation efforts.

    Our tour continued with an exploration of the town's rich Native American heritage, showcasing a collection of intricately carved totem poles. These poles at the Sitka National Historical Park, depict cultural stories, clan lineage, and historical events, providing a deep understanding of the indigenous Tlingit people's artistry and traditions.

    St. Michael's Cathedral in Sitka is a historic Russian Orthodox church featuring distinctive onion domes and housing valuable religious artifacts. Built in the mid-19th century, it symbolizes Russian America's legacy. Reconstructed after a 1966 fire, it remains a cultural and architectural landmark.

    Continuing South, the our cruise ship docks in Skagway, Alaska, a historic town known for its Klondike Gold Rush legacy. Downtown Skagway, a National Historic District, features restored 19th-century buildings and wooden sidewalks, offering a glimpse into its gold rush past. Central to its charm is the White Pass Railroad, a narrow-gauge railway built during the gold rush. Undoubtedly, the scenic rail journey stands as the highlight of our trip, leaving an indelible imprint of awe-inspiring panorama landscapes etched in our memories.

    To cap off the day, we danced to Lin's favorite tune, "Dancing Queen," played by the Abba tribute band. The music, joy, and energy were infectious, making it an absolutely wonderful time.

A short walk brings visitors to Stanley Park, a 1,000-acre urban oasis with scenic seawall paths, totem poles, and the Vancouver Aquarium. Nearby, Granville Island is famous for its bustling public market, artisan shops, and vibrant arts scene.

    For a taste of local culture, Gastown’s historic charm and trendy boutiques are a must-visit, while the Capilano Suspension Bridge offers an exhilarating nature experience just a short drive away. Vancouver's culinary scene, with its diverse and high-quality offerings, invites exploration, especially in neighborhoods like Yaletown and Chinatown.
