• Cedar Breaks National Monument

    August 15, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

We made to back to Cedar Breaks N. M. We did a pretty easy loop trail along the rim of the Breaks. Through a Cedar, Pine and Aspen forest that runs to the edge of the cliff. Mid point of the hike was one of the overlooks on the amphitheater/cliffs.

The National Monument is nicer than either National Parks because there is almost no development. No central road with a thousand cars and shuttle buses. No hoards of people. Just a Visitors' Center, an Admin Building, and a campground across the road.

Comparing Bryce to Cedar Breaks, Bryce had more interesting sandstone formations (one was called the Cathedral, another was a Castle) and HooDoo spires (we hiked past one called Queen Victoria). Cedar Breaks amphitheater was more visually stunning. It seemed larger, wider and deeper. And the transition from high altitude Alpine Forest and meadows, to multi-layer sandstone cliffs is just amazing!
