Cancun ist…. HEISS!!!!! Gepaart mit der hohen Luftfeuchtigkeit, die diese Tatsache noch verstärkt, erzeugt das einen Saunaeffekt und lässt mich in eine Hitzestarre fallen. Eidechse, nur anders herum. Ich verstehe nicht, dass Leute hier freiwillig ihren Sommerurlaub verbringen (ich nehm mich mal frech aus, ich wusste es nicht besser 🤣). Jetzt ist gerade der Start der Hochsaison, da in den USA die Ferien begonnen haben. Und Mexiko ist für die Amis wie Spanien für der Deutschen.
Es gibt in Cancun eine ca. 20km lange Strasse am Strand entlang (Hotel Zone genannt), wo sich ein Hotel an das nächste reiht. Bettenburgen. Die schöneren und teureren Hotels liegen 45 Minuten weiter südlich, Richtung Playa del Carmen. Monströse Anlagen mit kilometerlangen Zufahrten hinter den Sicherheitsvorrichtungen. Die gibt es überall, in den Hotels, aber auch in den normalen Wohnanlagen. Normal ist relativ. Diese „Condominiums“ (Eigentumswohnungen in bewachter, begrenzter Hochaus-Wohnanlage) kannte ich bisher limitiert nur aus Spanien. Du kommst nur nach ID Check rein bzw. der Portier kennt dein Gesicht. Sonst geht das 3m hohe Tor nicht auf. Auch die normalen kleinen 1-2 stöckigen Strassenhäuser haben alle entweder ein hohes, a gespitztes Gitter, dekorativen Stacheldraht oder einen elektrischen Zaun auf der Mauer. Mhmmm, trägt nicht gerade zum individuellen Sicherheitsgefühl bei.
Dafür sind die Fusswege schön palmig und grün, einige Bäumchen knallig rot und die Banknoten mal wieder tierisch.
Das naheliegende Shoppingcenter ist bombastisch gross, aber dazu mehr in einem anderen Beitrag.

Cancun is... HOT!!!!! Coupled with the high humidity, which reinforces this fact, it creates a sauna effect and causes me to become paralyzed by the heat. Like a lizard, just the other way around. I don't understand why people spend their summer holidays here voluntarily (I mean I did not know better 🤣). Now is the start of the high season as the holidays have started in the USA. And Mexico is for the Americans what Spain is for the Germans.
In Cancun there is a 20km long road along the beach (called Hotel Zone) where one hotel is next to the other. The nicer and more expensive hotels are 45 minutes further south towards Playa del Carmen. Monstrous facilities with miles of driveways behind the security guards. The security checks are everywhere: in the hotels, but also in the normal residential complexes. Normal is relative. I only knew these “condominiums” (owner-occupied apartments in a guarded, limited high-rise residential complex) from Spain. You can only get in after an ID check or the security guard knows your face. Otherwise the 3m high gate will not open. Even the normal small 1-2 storey street houses all have either a high, pointed trellis, decorative barbed wire or an electric fence on the wall. Mhmmm, doesn't exactly contribute to the individual sense of security.
On the other hand, the footpaths are beautifully palm-lined and green, some trees are bright red and the banknotes are once again with animal prints.
