Cancun, Supermarket

Auf der Suche nach frischem Obst wurde ich von meinem Mitbrwohner hierher geschickt. Die kleinen Eckläden kennen kein Obst und kein Gemüse. Der Supermarkt in der riesigen Mall ist schon beeindruckend. Allein das Angebot an frischen Backwaren. Es gibt sogar Butterbrote mit Zucker bestreut. Wie vieles andere unverpackt. Könnte also jeder anfassen. Machen sie aber nicht. Man nimmt sich ein riesiges Alu-Tablett und eine Zange und nimmt sich, was man haben will. Das wird dann an einer Station verpackt und bepreist für die Kasse.
Obst wird farblich schon sortiert angeboten. Unglaublich viele Linetten harren ihres Kaufes, genauso wie Ananas und Melonen. Sachen werden teils geschält angeboten, so wie doe Zwiebeln, gross wie Pampelmusen. Auch getrocknete Hibiskusblüten liegen als Tee bereit. Hummer dürfen nochmal im Kühlen plantschen, bevor es irgendwann ins heisse Wasser geht. Das Regal mit den Chips ist beeindruckend. Die Reihe der Toilettenpapiere endlos. Das war hier während Covid sicher nicht knapp.
Neben dem ganzen Essen inklusive salattheke und Café zum hinsetzen gibt es natürlich auch andere Artikel zu kaufen. Allein die Auswahl an neuen Kleiderbügeln fand ich lustig. Und damit man nicht überrascht ist nach dem Einkauf, dass es zu regnen begonnen hat, lässt einen das Dach das relativ eindeutig wissen bzw. hören.
Auch hier, wie in Costa Rica: die Preise sind gesalzen, billig ist anders. Dabei wird das Einkauszentrum mit inkludierter Kino- und Spielelandschaft hauptsächlich von Einheimischen besucht, Touristen hab ich hier kaum gesehen. Aber uns trennt ja auch die innerstädtische Lagune von der Touristenstrasse am Strand mit den Bettenburgen.

I was sent here by my roommate in search of fresh fruit. The small corner shops know no fruit and no vegetables. The supermarket in the huge mall is impressive. Simply alone the range of fresh baked goods. There are even sandwiches sprinkled with sugar. Like many other bakery stuff unpackaged. So anyone could touch it. But they don't do it. You take a huge aluminum tray and tongs and take what you want. This is then packed at a special station and priced for the checkout.
Fruit is sorted by colour. An unbelievable number of limes are waiting to be bought, as are pineapples and melons. Things are offered partly peeled, like onions, big as grapefruits. Dried hibiscus flowers are also available as a tea, I assume. Lobsters are allowed to splash in the cool water before they finally go into the hot yacuzzi. The shelf with the chips is impressive. The line of toilet paper endless. That was certainly not scarce here during Covid. (joke)
In addition to all the food, including the salad bar and café to sit down, there are of course other items (hardware) to buy. I just found the selection of new hangers funny. And so that you are not surprised after shopping that it has started to rain, the roof lets you know and hear it relatively clearly.
Also here, as in Costa Rica: the prices are high, cheap is different - although the shopping center with included cinema area and games landscape is mainly visited by locals, I hardly saw any tourists here. Probably because the inner-city lagoon separates us (downtown) from the tourist street on the beach with the big hotels.Read more
