Sri Lanka - Farewell

Sri Lanka ist richtig schnuckelig und hat alles da für einen schönen Urlaub. Die Leute sind nett und zurückhaltend. Morgens war es immer heiss + sonnig und abends immer schwül + regnerisch. (Wetter für Frühaufsteher.) Entsprechend grün ist die Insel: Reis, Bananen, Kokospalmen. Das erste Mal, dass ich wilde Elefanten 🐘 gesehen habe. 🥰 Man kann Christ sein und trotzdem dem Buddhismus folgen. Es muss sich nix widersprechen. Die buddhistischen Höhlentempel sind so unglaublich alt, teils hunderte Jahre vor Christus. Es steht sehr viel Geschichte rum. Frittierstes scharfes Futter wie samosas oder rotis gibts fast überall, die Schärfe ist von aussen nicht abzuschätzen. Die Supermärkte sind ähnlich und doch wieder anders. Die grösseren haben Toilette, Apotheke und Fischtheke auch mit drin. An manchennStellen gibt es Securities, obwohl man sich als Tourist sehr sicher fühlt. Der Verkehr ist lustig, ein geordnetes Chaos, Trotzdem gut, dass wir gefahren wurden - danke Kapila! Manchmal 4 Fahrzeuge nebeneinander bei zwei Spuren. wer nicht sehr links fährt, wird zugehupt, besonders von den Agro-Bussen. Rasende Monster mit offenen Türen zum Rein- und Rausspringen, zum Halten haben die quasi keine Zeit. Sie halten nur, wenn Kühe auf der Strasse rumstehen. Trotz all dem: keinen Unfall gesehen, kaum Dellen in Autos. Gefühlt jeder tuckert mit den TucTucs herum, teils 6 Personen drin, mehr geht sicher auch noch. Hier funktioniert die Hupe noch als Warnsignal. Und es wird viel gewarnt. Man bremst für Hunde. Und es gibt viele Hunde. 😉 Bäckereiwagen fahren wie Eisläden früher mit Musik herum, entweder mit „Ode an die Freude“ oder „Für Elise“. Die Schulkinder tragen durchweg Uniform, meist weiss mit Schlips, was sehr schick aussieht. Man geht gerne mit Regenschirm als Schattenspender durch die Gegend. Hilft aber nix gegen 80%+ Luftfeuchtigkeit. 🥵 Die Frauen haben zum Großteil wirklich diese unglaublich langen Haare. Beste Werbung für alle Haaröle (bspw. Kings Coconut Oil). Ayurveda is a big thing, da könnte man sich tiefer mit befassen. Die staatliche (teils geförderte) Ausbildung zum A-Heilpraktiker dauert 5 Jahre und verspricht später auch nen guten Verdienst. Es stehen teils grosse Häuser - die Familien wohnen, so denn möglich, gerne noch in Generationen zusammen. Familie wird eh gross geschrieben, was sehr schön ist. Tränenreiche Verabschiedung auch eines Einzelnen durch Grossfamilien am Flughafen, obwohl alle Nichtfliegenden Geld zahlen müssen zum Reinkommen in das Flughafengebäude. Auch noch nie gesehen. Moskitos gibts hier genügend, die Stiche jucken aber nicht so elendig lang, meistens nur einen Tag lang. Ungefähr so lange, wie es Blutegelbiss blutet. Man isst grüne Suppe mit einer Art braunem Zucker und den Tee mit Milch. Und wenn es regnet, regnet es. Deal with it. Punkt.

Sri Lanka is really cute and has everything you need for a great holiday. The people are nice and helpful. It was always hot + sunny in the morning and always humid + rainy in the evening. (Weather for early birds.) The island is correspondingly green: rice, bananas, coconut palms. The first time I saw wild elephants 🐘. You can be a Christian and still follow Buddhism. Nothing has to contradict each other. The Buddhist cave temples are so incredibly old, some hundreds of years before Christ. There's a lot of history lying around. Deep-fried spicy food like samosas or rotis can be found almost everywhere, the spiciness cannot be estimated from the outside. The supermarkets are similar to ours and yet different. The larger ones also have a toilet, pharmacy and fish counter included. In some places there are securities, although as a tourist you feel very safe. The traffic is fun, an orderly chaos, but it's good that we were driven - thanks Kapila! Sometimes 4 vehicles next to each other in two lanes. Anyone who doesn't drive very left will be honked at, especially by the aggressive buses. Racing monsters with open doors to jump in and out of, they basically have no time to stop. They only stop when cows are standing around on the road. Despite all this: no accidents seen, hardly any dents in cars. It feels like everyone is chugging around in the TucTucs, sometimes there are 6 people in them, but more is certainly possible. Here the horn still functions as a warning signal. And there is a lot of warning. You brake for dogs. And there are lots of dogs.😉 Bakery trucks drive around like our ice cream cars used to do with music, either “Ode to Joy” or “Für Elise”. The school children all wear uniforms, mostly white with a tie, which looks very chic. People like to walk around with an umbrella to provide shade. But it doesn't help against 80%+ humidity. Most of the women really have this incredibly long hair. Best advertising for all hair oils they sell here (e.g. Kings Coconut Oil). Ayurveda is a big thing, one could dig deeper into it. The state (partly funded) training to become an ayurveda therapist lasts 5 years and promises good earnings later on. Some of the houses are large - the families like to live together for generations if possible. Family is very important anyway, which is very nice. Tearful farewells to an individual by large families at the airport, even though everyone who doesn't fly has to pay money to get into the airport building. Never seen it either. There are enough mosquitos here, but the bites don't itch for long, usually only for a day. About as long as leech bites bleed. People eat green soup with some kind of brown sugar and the tea is with milk. And when it rains, it rains. Deal with it. Full stop.Read more
