Há Nội: „Stadt innerhalb der Flüsse“

Hanoi ist mir ans Herz gewachsen. Quirlig und laut, herzig und einfallsreich, immer noch leicht rot eingefärbt, aber du wirst nett kapitalistisch über den Tisch gezogen, historisch und stolz, hektisch und gleichzeitig relaxed. Der Geruch und die agitatorisch anmutenden Ansagen über die Strassenlautsprecher. Tiefgläubig in den Tempeln und viele rote Fahnen mit Stern, aber auch Hammer und Sichel auf den Strassen. Onkel Ho ist omnipräsent, auf den Geldscheinen mit den viel zu vielen Nullen und auf vergilbten Postern in den Straßen. Ich habe genau 1 Bettler gesehen, alle anderen versuchen, sich mit irgendeiner Art Beschäftigung/Geschäft über Wasser zu halten. Wenige sprechen Englisch, aber es geht auch locker ohne. Worst case kriegst du ein entschuldigendes Schulterzucken gepaart mit einem Lächeln. Mehr brauch man eh nicht. Wenn man dann noch am Ende des Tages alle Straßenüberquerungen heil überstanden hat, weiß man, es war ein guter Tag.

Há Nội: “City within the Rivers”

Hanoi has grown dear to my heart. Lively and loud, hearty and imaginative, still slightly red in color, but you're being ripped off in a nice capitalist way, historic and proud, hectic and relaxed at the same time. The smell and the seemingly agitational announcements over the street loudspeakers. Deeply religious in the temples and lots of red flags with stars, but also flags with hammers and sickles on the streets. Uncle Ho is omnipresent, on the banknotes with far too many zeros and on yellowed posters in the streets. I saw exactly 1 beggar, everyone else is trying to stay afloat with some kind of employment/business. Few speak English, but it's easy to do without it. Worst case scenario, you get an apologetic shrug coupled with a smile. You don't need more anyway. If at the end of the day you have survived all the street crossings in one piece, you know it was a good day.Read more
