    Nachdem wir alles in St. George erledigt hatten, machen wir uns langsam auf den Weg zum Grand Canyon. In St. George ist es bewölkt 🌥️ & windig, als wir ins Hurricane Valley fahren, kämpfen wir mit Windböen vom bis zu 74 km/h. Später lässt der Wind nach, dafür beginnt es zu regnen. 🌧️ Wir stoppen beim Pipe Spring National Monument.

    Drawn by the high desert grasses, Mormon ranchers began settling near water sources on the Arizona Strip in the 1860s. In 1863 James Whitmore acquired title to 160 acres around Pipe Spring, brought sheep and cattle, built a dugout and corrals, and planted an orchard and vineyard. By 1864 Navajo Indians had bequn raiding Mormon livestock across the Arizona Strip. In 1866 Whitmore and his herdsman were killed trying to recover their stolen cattle. Other killings between Mormons and Indians ensued. In 1868 Mormon militiamen built a small stone cabin at Pipe Spring as a stronghold against continuing Navajo raids in the region.
