• Almendralejo to Merida

    March 23, 2025 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 9 °C

30kms of which we walked 4.5 - Today we decided to let the train take the strain! Well that was the plan but they put on a bus instead!!!

We woke to pouring rain, storm Martinho still working his way through Spain. A decision was made. As Merida is our day off tomorrow, rather than spend part of the day doing laundry, we would seek out a laundrette today, get our wash done and catch the train this afternoon.

Once you make a firm choice you feel a whole lot better. This Camino has been so stop start due to flooding and bad weather we are just packing away the guilt and doing what we want. We will still be walking a whole long way, better than being sat on the sofa at home.

We now have clean clothes, and a clear day to walk around Merida tomorrow to take in as many Roman sites as possible. There really is a lot to see.

Our train turned into a bus as I said, the driver obviously liked to drive in the gutter, how the parked cars still had wing mirrors I don’t know and as for overtaking a truck on the motorway, we were so close you could see the whites of his eyes, so said Peter I had mine closed. Thankfully it was a relatively short journey especially as we’d been to McDonald’s for lunch. They do very different burgers here in Spain. We had pulled pork with burger and bacon in a brioche bun, very good. Though Peter is very much a cheese burger fan.

Any way we are now in our hotel for the next two nights a plan of the town with everything to see kindly highlighted by the receptionist. We will certainly get plenty of walking in to compensate for the lack thereof today
