Larnaka, is a port city in the southeast of the Mediterranean island of Cyprus with 51,468 inhabitants and the capital of the district of the same name.

The city kingdom of Kition was one of the most important ancient city kingdoms. Building remains date back to the 13th century BC. The capital was Kition near today's Larnaka. Later, Phoenicians founded a powerful kingdom here.

In the 18th century, Larnaka became a trading centre and the seat of European consulates. The port city's importance increased after 1974, when the port of Kyrenia and Nicosia airport were closed due to the Turkish invasion.Baca lagi
