    London Tower

    June 21, 2025 in Qatar ⋅ ☀️ 42 °C

After three flights via Sydney and Doha, we landed in the UK 🇬🇧, and after two trains, we arrived atThe Saint Hotel in Aldgate. Our evening walk included some bar hopping in the financial district. I saw lots of iconic English places and was constantly reminded of the Monopoly board.

Our first day was an exploration of London Tower, a ghoulish theme park that houses the Royal jewels for a bit of contrast. 🤣

  • Out and About

    June 22, 2025 in England ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

One of the reasons we flew to the UK before our bike ride, was to see the cutting edge ABBA Voyage concert. No photos were allowed inside the arena, but the memories are lasting.

We caught up with Jason and Leanne and had a debrief on our flights across the pond (via Doha and Dubai), an interesting conundrum for the return trip given the unrest in the Middle East.

    Off to the Cotswolds next.

  • Cotswolds

    June 25, 2025 in England ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

Visiting the Cotswolds was a first for both of us, as was meeting new friends and spending enough time to make meaningful bonds.

Sudely Castle was a surprisingly important historical ruin - where Katherine Par ruled as Queen while King Henry V111 was at war. I’ll check my history and revise this if got it wrong.

Nicky and Nick met up with us for lunch and after chatting with Nicky for nearly 20 years on MySpace and Facebook, it proves you can make real friends on social media.

Rob and Lou are new, and now good friends, and after spending the weeks hosting our visit, decided to join us for a car rally to Norway next year. What a week!! 🎉 🙌

    Grimsel Pass - Chamonix
    Mileage: 255 km (158 mi)
    Timing: 7h (incl. stops)

Today we rode from Switzerland to France, where we had a day off in Chamonix. We went to the top of MT Blanc, and I think it may have been the most amazing place and engineering feat I have ever seen. The first gondola landing was pretty, the second was like another world - we were up in the clouds, next to a glacier perched on a rock with incredible buildings and lookouts that defy gravity.

There are too many photos for one entry, check Day 6 part 2 for the pics of the peak at Mt Blanc

  • Day #8

    July 6, 2025 in France ⋅ 🌧 15 °C

We started with Col de L'Iseran at 2.764 m elevation, passing to the summit of Col du Galibier and Col du Lautaret, along with great mountain scenery on the way. Massive rocks, mountain pastures and snow-covered landscapes makes it all worthwhile! Riding along Val d'Isere valley, we arrived at the historical little French village of Briançon - for the night.
