    Finally putting up some more, arrived safe and sound but exhausted after 2 days of traveling, 2 planes, 2 buses and a car trip and are finally tucked at Wendy's in Tavistock, we spent the first day just wandering around Tavi, and today got up and went for a walk on the Moors so beautiful, went into town and came back home, its cold and wet today .En savoir plus

  • Merrivale Monuments

    Merrivale Monuments, Dartmoor National Park, Tavistock, this was fantasic it was standing stones and hut circles , its the Bronze Age Stone Rows are facinating, you can almost feel the sheer history and magic of the place. we wanderered around for over an hour a facinating place to go. We then went to Widecombe in the Moor and had a Cream Tea it si beautiful old place and well worth a visit, Widecombe is a Moor village in the Dartmoor National Park in Devon. Popped into a lovely little place and had a cream tea yum, can feel the kg"s moving in lol, time for another walk I think.En savoir plus

  • Southampton and Portsmouth

    Out and about today, first off into southampton and had a wander around and then headed to the Tudor House, what an amazing place it was a wonderful way to see history and the way people lived around 1500 AD and stone work eg chimneys from 1200AD how truly amazing.
    We then went to Fort Nelson in Portsmouth, the sheer size of the place and the guns are amazing, we also went through the tunnels which are massive. we spent the day with Jamie, Emma and the 3 kids , makes for a busy day. ,

  • Southampton to Slane

    Early start today up at 4am and off to Southampton Airport, fly to Dublin and pick up our car , we have been given a Renault Captur nice size car for us to zip around in. We arrive in Dublin and head off to Ardgillan Demesne in Ardgillan just out of Dublin, we then travelled to Slane via the secenic route as the road was closed in one spot so we had an adventure finding our way, We then went to Slane Castle what an amazing place, rebuilt after a fire nearly destroyed the place. Then had dinner at our hotel and then popped in next door to a graat little pub called Boyle"s, time for bed after a looonnnggg day.En savoir plus

  • Winterfell and Belfast

    Started the day with a huge breakfast, then headed off to Castle Ward, the site of early Winterfell from GOT. Then on to Belfast to visit a dentist so that Kate could have a broken tooth repaired. After the dentist we checked into our Belfast hotel, and Derek got lost trying to find the Carpark in Belfast's one way streets and building works road closures. A bit of shopping in the afternoon, dinner in the hotel and an early night.En savoir plus

  • Belfast

    Up and about, big breakfast to set us up for a day of exploring, first we got picked up by our black cab tour guide Shaun and he took us to the real Belfast showing us places and things we would never had seen, he took us to the wall and explained a lot of the history of Belfast, so much to take in. We then went to the titanic exhibtion and then wandered around Belfast just enjoying the atmosphere, we then had dinner at Belfasts oldest building which was a very cool pub.En savoir plus

  • The long haul

    Wow what a day , started out with Carrickfergus Castle, then continued on our way heading towards the giants causeway, we decided to take a detour and go to Torr Head, bit of a climb to the top but well worth it once there, we then went on to the Dark hedges apparantly from Game of Thrones , Derek was excited , me I just thought it was pretty lol, we then headed to the giants causeway and it was bucketing, we got so soaked. By the time we got back up we were drenched and freezing, we then stopped at a servo so we could change our clothes in the Loo lol.
    We then headed off to our place of recidence for the night, finally got here at about 6.30, checked in and had a fantastic seafood dinner for Derek"s birthday, there is a band on later but we have had such a big day that I dont think we will make it.

  • Westport

    We left from Carrick after a HUGE breakfast, and headed off thru Donegal, Derry and Sligo to Westport.
    Parked the car and went for a wander, found a cafe for some yummy veggie soup, then went to find Dan & Rachaels place.
    Dropped off our stuff and went out for a couple of drinks, Dan had a tummy ache, so he went home to sleep.
    We moved on to Matt Molloys to watch "CrookedTrad" playing some awesome music!!!
    Back to Dan & Rachaels for burgers and Netflix - another magic day in Ireland.

  • More Westport

    Another day in Westport, we had a late start to the day with a sleep in and late breakfast at Dans and Rachael, we then went the Quay and went on a Clew Bay cruise which was lovely, then did a couple of pubs so Derek could judge the Guiness lol, we then went out for a lovely dinner.En savoir plus

  • Westport to Galway

    Drove from westport to Galway , checked into our hotel early. Then went up to the Info office and went on a walking tour of Galway, it was a good introduction to Galway, after that we wandered around and had a good look around, went a quaint little place for lunch , then went back to the hotel for a while, we then went to An Pucan for dinner it was a tradional Irish pub they had two guys playing Trad Irish music it was a fanatstic night.En savoir plus

  • Galway to Killarney

    Big day today up for a good breakfast before hitting the road, we first headed to Dungaire Castle for a look around we then got back on the road and drove through Limerick and headed for Dingle, what a drive, it was amazing the scenery is breathtaking and amazing roads , we visited the Famine houses what a hard life they must have had. From there we drive back to Kilarney just being amazed at the countryside, I would tell everyone who comes to Ireland to Visit here........amazing, we then had a dinner at a restuarant called Bricin Restuarant and Boxty house and tried Irish Boxty for dinner, it was yum, will attempt to cook it when I get home.En savoir plus

  • Killarney to Cork

    Up and about early after an amazing breakfast on our way to Ross Castle, Killarney what a sight , it was an amazing drive the countryside is just amazing, We went down through Bantry and tried to find Russagh Crater but to no avail , oh well on to Drombeg Stone Circle, which we found and they were amazing, you got such a feeling from this place and just to place your hands on these is a honour and privlage. Then on to Cork for the night, wandered around Cork , didnt quite get the feeling that we had in other places, we still had a fun night at a local pub with Trad music.En savoir plus

  • Cork to Kilkenny

    Up and had breakfast in Cork and then hit the road towards Waterford so we could visit the Waterford crystal factory, I love watching people working with glass, we then moved on to Kilkenny and went to Kilkenny Castle which was huge and amazing, we then went to the Medievil Mile Meusum which was fantasic we had a guide named Pat who painted such a picture in history for us if you ever get here make sure this is on you list, we then checked into our hotel and then went to the Kytelers Inn which was opened in the 13th Century what an amzing place, and once again more Trad music.En savoir plus

  • Kilkenny to Ashbourne

    Popped out to the Pantry for breakfast, then headed off to the Dunmore Caves. Found out that 120 teenagers were about to arrive for the 10am tour, so headed off to the Rock of Dunamase - the site of a derelict castle on the way back to Dublin. Then on to Ashbourne for lunch and to check into our hotel. Had a quiet afternoon and early dinner before watching TV and an early night before tomorrows flight to Southampton.En savoir plus

  • Ashbourne to Bath

    Well what a day, up early to say goodbye to Ireland, its been wonderful. We flew from Dublin to Southampton, picked up our car drove to Jamie and Emmas place to say bye and pick up our case, then on the road we go, drove to Bath, we tried this one other time and the roaads were so bad we couldnt get in, so here we go again, lol what a time, first there is no parking as the parking the hotel use is closing down argh, try the cricket ground they say ok well thats another adventure but we finally get a park yay. We check into our hotel and head for the sights, what a beautiful city first we went to the roman baths wow the romans knew what they were doing it is really amazing , we then went on to the Abbey how stunning, I think no matter if you are a beleiver or not there is a real peace about some places.
    We then just went for a wander around there is so much to see. Out for a Tumerick base vege pizza for dinner , it was amazing.

  • Bath to Llanrwst

    Left bath nice and early knowing we had a big day ahead , drove to Tintern Abbey, it is near the banks of the River Wye, stunning place , interesting drive there as there was a road diversion and ended up on a tiny road and getting stuck on it as a family had the road blocked moving an enormous oven, lol so what do we do.... get out and have a chat . We then hit the road once again off to the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct in Wrexham, It is an 18 arched stone and cast iron structure and is used for narrow boats etc, it was amazing an another beautiful spot, We then drove on to our home or the next 2 nights, the Eagle hotel in Llanrwst, beautiful hotel. Early dinner and more new beers for Derek.En savoir plus

  • Conwy and Caernarfon

    Up for a yummo Breakfast and then off for the day, first stop was Conwy Castle how fantastic that these are still in existance for us to look at, touch and be allowed to dream just a little about what it would have been like. We then drove to The Great Orme Head which can be got to by cable car, tram, or driving,. We opted for the cable car going up , which for me was a huge challange as I am really bad at heights, so with great fear I got on, pretty much begging Derek not to even breathe lol. Was it worth it.....yes it was , it was amazingly stunning as I hope the pics will tell. Went back down via the tram which was fun, We then went to Caernarfon Castle which is in a beautiful coastal area, another stunner of a place, a little bit more polished than the others as it is still owned by the Royal family, on our way make to our hotel we went through Snowdonia OMG it was breataking, I literally just kept oohhhing and arhhhing the entire time, it was like nothing Ihad ever seen before, back to our hotel for another yummo dinner.En savoir plus

  • Llanwrst to Carmarthen

    After another yummo breakfast we headed off to Dolwyddelan Castle, but it was to high to climb up so we took some pics and moved on to Harlech Castle driving through Snowdonia on the way. Amazing is an understatement of the countryside, it was truely incredible, the castle was amazing. Then we followed the coast road down to Cardigan for lunch, stopping for lunch at a great pub on the roadside. We then went to Pentre-Ifan Burial chamber which was accessed by one of their famous curly narrow roads glad there wasnt much traffic. The Burial Chamber was fantastic how it has stood the test of time is truely amazing.
    We then took a couple of B roads to destination for the night. Had dinner at a great restuarant called Diablo's which was amazing, fantastic cocktails .

  • Carmarthen to Cardiff

    On our way to Cardiff this morning after another great breakfast, some serious dieting to be done when we get home lol. We arranged to meet Sis and Pete in the city near the castle, it was fantastic to be able to catch up with them here , and to top it off it was my birthday. We decided to do the hop on - hop off bus first and see a bit of the city , which was really interesting, we then got off at the Cardiff Castle which was amazing. The keep part is a ruin but facinating, the manor house section is incredible. The works of art on the walls and just the sheer opulance of some of the rooms was incredible. We then went and grabbed a pizza for lunch, and checked into our home for the night which was an incredible B&B in the city with Sis and Pete.We popped next door for dinner at the The Cricketers and had a really really good dinner, back to our room for a long hot bath lol.En savoir plus

  • Cardiff to Stratford-on-Avon

    Up to another amazing breakfast, the B&B we stayed in was truely amazing and it was lovely to be able to spend the day with Sis and Pete. After breakfast it was off to see our castle of the day and our last one in Wales so we went to Chepstow Castle which was incredible, then it was off to get Shakespeared up and boy did we. First we went to Anne Hathaways House, then Shakespears birth place it is amazing that so much is known about there lives, we then went to The New Place which is where He lived with his family, the house no longer exists. We then had a nice dinner at a local pub.En savoir plus

  • Stratford-on-Avon to Liverpool

    Up early for breakfast and time once again to hit the road. Before leaving we went to Shakespears grave which is in Holy Tinity a beautiful church with beautiful gardens/ We then moved on to Mary Ardens Farm, she was Shakespears mother. It is a fully functional tudor farm which was just facinating to see. Y ou will see in one of the pics that the bed linen is red, even on the cradle, that was to keep the bad fairys out. We then hit the road to Liverpool, we checked into our hotel for the next 2 nights and went to Lark Lane which is full of lovely restuarants. We then went into the city of Liverpool to have a look around, then back to the hotel and out for dinner.En savoir plus
