  • Making it last...

    29. juli 2018, Australien ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

More island fun before our departure. After checking out of the hotel we enjoy a few more hours of fun at the beach, the pool, and lunch.

It was an amazing weekend, but we were all happy to get back to the Davis’ home… even Molly missed the boys.Læs mere

  • Thank you

    30. juli 2018, Australien ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Just a quick shout-out to everyone who has read, followed and especially commented on our posts (we read all the comments, often more than once). We are so happy to hear (and read) that you are sharing in our adventure. There may be the occasional lag in our posts, but we are working hard to catch-up and keep-up with the stories and pictures.

And Thank you to our friends who have, sometimes against their will, ended up in our photos… awkward smiles, cut-off heads, muffin-tops and closed-eyes, we have them all and love them all!

Please keep coming back, we are not even at the half-way point yet!

  • Reflections

    31. juli 2018, Australien ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Reflections after a month of travel…
Traveling is not always relaxing and laided-back. Sometimes is a stressful, sometimes it makes you think more than you would like, and sometimes it is a down-right worry. After almost a month of travel, I am not going to lie, we have been through all those emotions at some point already. Now that being said we have seen and done great things, enjoyed time with friends and found many moments that are more than worth it.
We have already reminisced about where we have been and how ‘long ago’ it was since we drank beer at NWT Brewing in Yellowknife or drank beer at the Anaheim Brewery in California or drank beer at Les 3 Brasseurs in Tahiti… oh ya and rode the Radiator Springs Racers in Disneyland or paddle boarded in Bora Bora. We are so fortunate that the adventures keep coming and the experiences continue to amaze us. But moving through the places and spaces of this trip keeps you on your toes and double-checking.
So far we have enjoyed destinations with amazing weather, and that certainly lends itself to relaxation and comfort… and hopefully that continues.
We are sharing some amazing sights, sounds and experiences with our children and with any luck making memories that will not soon be forgotten.
As we step on new continents, step into new cities and maybe step out of our comfort zone we want to leave tracks that encourage our kids to never stop exploring.

With many memories behind us and our eyes looking ahead of us the adventure continues…

  • First night away...

    1. august 2018, Australien ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

Last night we enjoyed our last supper with the Davis’. Another good time before we continue on our travel adventure. This morning we left Jason standing in the garage as we drove away (we miss him already). Tonight is our first night away from our Davis Australian family. Feels strange, but we are persevering.Læs mere

  • Gone, but nowhere near forgotten

    2. august 2018, Australien ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Second day of travel south from our friends in Mackay. Lots of chatting about the fun we had and when we will get to come back.
Continued road trippin’ in Australia from Gladstone to Brisbane.
Hard to be too entertaining while driving 100+ kms an hour down the highway, but this is our attempt.Læs mere

  • Touchdown #12, Singapore

    3. august 2018, Singapore ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

    Don’t get too comfy!

Another stop-over in our travel adventure. We enjoy some downtime at the airport in the middle of the night, sandwiched between 2 long flights. This is our chance to stretch our legs, have a rest, kill some time and be able to say we were in Singapore... sort of.

DYK: Singapore is considered by many to be both a country and a city. Singapore Changi Airport has been ranked airport of the year since 2013.

  • Touchdown #13, Johannesburg, SA

    4. august 2018, Sydafrika ⋅ ⛅ 9 °C

Arriving at the Oliver Reginald Tambo International Airport to visit our next destination, Johannesburg, South Africa. This visit gives us a chance to reconnect with friends we have not seen in 14 and 18 years. I guess we have some catching up to do.

    What brought us here?
Our South African-through-Taiwan family. Verity and Sean and Louise all lived in the same city as us in Taiwan. Through many adventures and many beers we managed to keep each other sane and enjoying the Taiwan experience. We have not seen Verity since 2004 at Nicola and Jason’s wedding in England (we visit them later in the trip) and Sean and Louise since 2001 when they boarded a bus to begin their Taiwan departure adventure.

DYK: Johannesburg is the world's largest city not built on a coastline, lake or river. That’s why Joburg is also called the world’s biggest ‘dry port’.

  • Destination #6, Johannesburg

    4. august 2018, Sydafrika ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Reunion #1 with Verity. After meeting us at the airport we made our way back to her house for a catch-up over a cup of coffee and tea. Wasting no time in South Africa we headed back out for some breakfast at De Molen Restaurant (the Dutch Windmill). Enjoyed some savoury (cheese and tomato) and sweet (cinnamon and apple, cinnamon and lemon and chocolate and ice cream) pancakes. Afterwards we picked up some treats at the bakery downstairs.
After a rest and freshen-up back at Verity's we headed over to the Hildebrand's for Reunion #2. We enjoyed a great visit, bar-b-q and introduction of all our kids. We were all in a bit of amazement considering our friendships began over 18 years ago in Taiwan, and now we are all sitting here.
Full first day in South Africa.

  • Dae in Suid Afrika (Afrikaans)

    9. august 2018, Sydafrika ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

    Days in South Africa (English)

South Africa is amazing us in so many ways. We have spent time with friends, introduced children to children, seen lots of sights, got up close with some animals and tried some local beer. This visit has quickly become much more than just a place to visit but rather a home away from home. AMAZING!Læs mere

  • A teenager in South Africa!

    10. august 2018, Sydafrika ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Isaac turns 13! Big day for our first born, today he becomes a teenager.
Over the past 13 years Isaac has visited Florida, Canada's east coast, California, Hawaii and Australia, all before our current adventure. And now here we are celebrating birthday #13 in South Africa. Isaac, you amaze us every day. You are becoming a great young man and you remain a wonderful big brother. We are so happy to share in your birthday while traveling the world. As always, we hope all your birthday wishes come true and we hope you realize that there is so much to see and so much to do in this world. Don't ever let your life get boring, don't ever stop looking for adventures, don't ever stop dreaming and don't ever stop making those dreams come true. Happy 13th birthday Isaac. (Who wants to bet this teenager is in for another party once we get back home?)

Our South African family, Verity, the Hildebrand and Williams family, spoiled Isaac and helped make this milestone birthday even more memorable.

  • Vacation in a vacation #2

    11. august 2018, Sydafrika ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Thanks to our South African family we were able to arrange a long weekend getaway to the Manyane Resort at Pilanesberg National Park [https://pilanesberggamereserve.com/manyane-reso…]. About 2.5 hours from Johannesburg, we stayed in a chalet, did a self-drive safari, walked some trails, joined a guided game drive, swam in the pool, bar-b-q’d, drank and enjoyed.Læs mere
