    Hutan Pinus

    October 26, 2016 in Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

We reached Yogyakarta around 11.30am local time. We had a local speciality for lunch called Gudeg. It was rice with some kind of sweet tasting chewy chicken and cow's skin. It was odd to me and wasn't exactly my favourite dish. Perhaps its acquired taste.

Then we headed to Hutan Pinus in Imogiri. In other words, the pine forest. Nice place for picture taking but we weren't there for long because it starting raining heavily shortly after we arrived.

After that we headed to our accomodation at Pantai Sepanjang. It was an Airbnb called Villa Tentrem up on a hill. A little walk beyond our villa there was a beautiful view of the beach and the coast down below. Again, didn't stay long because it started pouring again.

Headed back and then went for a seafood dinner at a nearby restaurant. After which, we retreated back to our villa and called it a day.

More adventure tomorrow perhaps, if the weather permits it.

  • Pantai Sepanjang

    October 27, 2016 in Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Woke up by 5.10am and walked up the hill near our Airbnb to watch the sunrise. It was slightly cloudy but a nice view nonetheless.

We left our villa at 7am. We walked along the paddy fields and found a trail the goes along the coast. The view of Sepanjang Beach was spectacular. We continued on and discovered Kukup Beach.Read more

This beach has a lighthouse which you ca climb for a small fee of Rp2000 per person. You start off by climbing a rocky hill to get to the lighthouse. Th view of Baron beach from above is to die for.

When you get to the lighthouse, there is a series of spiral staircases to climb before the grand finale, which is a metal ladder.

When you get to the top, you can get a 360 view around the lighthouse which includes the beach below, the coast that follows and distant forests and hills.

  • Pantai Wediombo

    October 27, 2016 in Indonesia ⋅ 🌙 6 °C

This beach looks like a regular beach, but its not. It has a hidden lagoon which is suitable for swimming. You have to walk by the beach towards the rocks, usually at the place you see people fishing. There, in between the barnacle covered rocks, you will find a bluish green body of water with lots of colourful fish and undersea wildlife.

Totally worth the visit as you will hardly find anything like this anywhere else.

  • Pantai Timang

    October 27, 2016 in Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

This beach is not like those other typical beaches with white sand being stuck between your feet. The reason we came here was for a one of a kind experience.

Timang is known for its gondola. Its a wooden contraption that looks like a hybrid between a basket and a cable car, which gets you across the sea to a nearby rocky island. A little scary at first but soon you start admiring the view and forget all about the fear of falling and dying. All for a fee of Rp200000 per person.

Timang is also known for its lobsters. Following our thrilling ride, we decided to indulge on some delicious lobster. You get to pick them outta a tank amd they cook it in their own style with something called Timang sauce.

  • Goa Sriti

    October 28, 2016 in Indonesia ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

We checked out of our Villa Tentrem today and started our adventure as early as 7am. Today we were going cave tubing. First off was Goa Sriti, which was a relatively short walk in an underground river in with the help of a guide. Since I am kind of short, I had to doggy paddle my way at times. They provide life vests so you won't drown anyway. Goa Sriti was a rather mysterious looking cave. A nice way to start the caving adventure.Read more

  • Goa Pindul

    October 28, 2016 in Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

After we came out from Goa Sriti, we hoped on a the back of a truck, picked up our giant floaty donuts and headed for Goa Pindul. Here, we just relaxed in our floats and enjoyed the cave architecture and cool water while we were pulled by our guide. The water was blue in color and we were told it can get as deep as 20 meters. There was a point where the cave has sort of an opening in the roof and the light shines through. Definitely worth seeing.Read more

  • Oya River

    October 28, 2016 in Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

Next was river tubing at Oya River. Again here we were put in our floats and dragged around. There was a point near a small waterfall that we were allowed out of our floats to move around freely. We didn't do that for long though because we soon were getting scorched by the sun and just wanted to carry on to the end point. So on our floats we got again and made our way to the end. Sadly for us though, it rained the night before, so the colour of the water was muddy. Had we been lucky, it would have been blue. But oh well..Read more

  • Merapi Jeep Adventure

    October 29, 2016 in Indonesia ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

After Borobudur Temple, we decided to go visit Mt Merapi, a famous volcanoe here. An active volcano erupting every few years. Its latest massive eruption was on the 5th of November 2010, killing over 300 people and evacuated around 360000. Though we weren't fortunate to see Mt. Merapi today but we did see the effects of the eruption as there is a museum here. The roads are only accessible by jeep and so it was a bumpy ride. We also saw the famous "Batu Alien" or Alien Rock which was part of the debris of one of its eruptions. It is recommended to visit Mt. Merapi in the early morning before the mist obliterates the view.Read more
