    Saskatoon

    30 maggio, Canada ⋅ 🌬 28 °C

For our first stop we went to Saskatoon for a friend's wedding. We stayed for 2 nights and partied too hard! Our travel day heading to Europe ended up being a gong show, but we made it!

  • Barcelona

    4 giugno, Spagna ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

Well, after the worst travel day of my life, and the airline telling me they had no idea where my luggage, I arrived in Barcelona absolutely defeated and exhausted.

It was a struggle in the heat, in the same clothes for days, but I tried to make the best of it for a day or two. Did a walking tour with the hostel, visited the Picasso museum, and made some friends at the hostel.

My mood was much improved when my backpack arrived, and I did a spanish guided tour of the Sagrada Familia, started writing in Parque Guell, and wandered the streets a little by myself.

On my last day I rented a bike, rode to Parque de la Ciutadella, traded some patches with the Bomberos, and visited the incredible Museo de Catalunya. Got caught in the rain on my bike ride back but it wasn't so bad!

Had my first paella at the hostel and left on a grossly early flight to Málaga to meet up with Anna.

Solo travel for a few days has been ok, but im excited to meet up with her and officially start traveling together, i think it will be a lot more fun together.

  • Málaga, Ronda, Senteníl, Caminito

    7 giugno, Spagna ⋅ 🌙 18 °C

Rented a car in Málaga and went for a little trip around Andalusia.

Stopped in Sentenil de las bodegas for a quick lunch and went to Ronda.

Ronda is GORGEOUS. The pictures dont even come close. Its quiet, romantic, and is known as the prettiest town in Spain. Hoping to come back one day.

Drove on towards Granada with a stop at Caminito Del Rey, and took full advantage of the car by pulling over at a gorgeous lake to cool off and go for a skinny dip.

  • Granada

    10 giugno, Spagna ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

    Granada was phenomenal.

I have wanted to take spanish guitar lessons in Spain for a long time, and it finally happened! A very nice man named Marcus helped me out a ton, and it was a pleasure to finally meet him! He helped me find, test and ship a new guitar that I bought here, organized flamenco lessons and gave me a classical lesson. Dream come true!

We saw the Alhambra, climbed to the highest view point in the city for a sunset and played some chess, and had way more than our fill of free tapas at every bar! We did my first official walking tour, saw a flamenco show in a cave, and checked out some buskers!

    Love Spain so far.

  • Sevilla

    13 giugno, Spagna ⋅ ⛅ 33 °C

Sevilla is gorgeous, definitely punches way above its weight for architecture. The real Alcazar is unbelievable, Plaza de España is as grand as you could imagine, and around every corner there's another beautiful building, but the real treat here was the music.

Sevilla claims to be home of flamenco, along with Granada, and had its own distinct style. We saw an amazing flamenco show on our first night, and had booked tickets to a second show, but thanks to a recommendation from a travel friend, we ended up at a little hole in the wall bar where many locals gather to jam. Its open to everyone and it was INCREDIBLE. I dont think you could get a more authentic experience. The guitarists were amazing, every body sang along, It was a highlight of the trip so far. I even got to play along with a couple songs, they were very encouraging!

  • Cordoba

    14 giugno, Spagna ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

Just a quick pit stop on the way to Madrid to see the Mezquite Cathedral.

Wandered a bit and Córdoba is super nice, but sometimes just hitting the highlights is fun.

One of the most interesting cathedrals I've ever seen. They say it was deliberately designed to feel "infinite and disorienting." I say they succeeded.

We also made a reservation at a rooftop restaurant, told them it was our anniversary, and they gave us a private terrace seat with the most incredible view.

Definitely a great way to spend less than 24 hours.

  • Toledo

    15 giugno, Spagna ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Toledo was another pit stop on the way to Madrid where we stayed for only 1 night. Gotta say, was blown away but how much there is to see here, and by just how important Toledo was throughout most of Spains history!

We were treated to a phenomenal light show at a great view point, stayed a a very cool old hotel and lounged by the pool, which was lovely after more than 2 weeks in the extreme summer heat.

As always, wishing there was more time, but i really enjoyed it here!

  • Madrid

    18 giugno, Spagna ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

In the end, Madrid didnt turn out quite as we had hoped , but that's ok. We had originally planned to some partying here but by the time we got here we were both so beat that it was nice to just wander the boulevards, go slow, and have a picnic in the park.

We saw the Royal Palace, and the temple of debod, admired the architecture brought Fred and some snacks and drinks to El Retiro park, and recharged our batteries.

This is our last stop in Spain, so it was nice to run some errands and prep for rhe next part of the adventure.

    Onwards to Sicily!
