We woke up as planned around 4 am. The plan was to start at 4:30 am and try and reach the Chuncho Clay Lick by around sunrise. Many varieties of parrots, mackaws and other birds come to the clayLæs mere

Around 5 am, the sun started rising over the trees surrounding the river. It was nice and cool early in the morning and the breeze due to the movement of the boat made it very refreshing.

On the way to the clay lick we saw some Capibaras along the shore of the Tambopata river. It was a very scenic ride.

We reached the Chuncho Clay Lick by around 6 am. It was around a small curve on the side of the Tambopata river. We parked our boat and got off to walk across to the other end of the curve.

We set up our telescope and the binoculars to see them up close. We even tried taking pictures through the telescope.

Chuncho Lodge

We finished food by 2 pm and the evening tour was at 3:30 pm, so we walked around in the area owned by byta the lodge. Its very beautifully built, the only complaint being the owner had cut too manyLæs mere
Off to El Gato reserve

At 3:30 pm, we went to the El Gato Reserve. Its a private reserve created by the owner since 35 years. He grows many types of fruits from all over amazon. We could walk around and taste some as partLæs mere

Inside the property there's a nice little waterfall. The pathway down was very wet and mucky due to the afternoon rain. But, we were wearing boots so we walked all the way down to get a better view.
Fruits of various kinds

Carambola - we tried the fruit. It was not fully ripe but tasted almost like an unripe golden apple.

Sapote - It grows in the wild in amazon. The fruits are high up and fall when they are ripe. The fruit had a hard outer cover that is hard to break. The pulp is very sweet. Sometimes, the CappuchinLæs mere

Kopvasu - from the family of Cacao. The fruit is used to make juice and ice cream. The seed is used to make chocolate.

Caimito - its a very sweet fruit gluey white pulp inside. Oil should be put on the lips before eating else it might make the lips stick.

The lime here was extremely sour with a very strong flavor of lime.

The size of the pineapples and cucumbers was also double the size we are used to seeing.

By 6:15 pm, we were back at our lodge. Just a few meters from the river shore, we saw some Night Monkeys in the high trees nearby. We also saw a tree tarantula near the dining room.

We woke up early and were ready for breakfast at 6:30 am. After a hearty breakfast of cut fruits and scrambled eggs, we were ready for our 1st activity of the day.
