    Morvich camping site

    Morvich Caravan Club Site is the ideal getaway for those who enjoy the great outdoors. Located on the lush green, wooded valley floor and surrounded by picturesque hills and mountains, the caravan site offers breathtaking scenery. Mostly owned by the National Trust for Scotland, the land has been designated as a National Scenic Area, so unforgettable natural beauty is guaranteed.

    Guided walks are organised by the National Trust for Scotland (next door); please check their website for details. These walks cater for everyone from the walker who enjoys a good challenge to those who prefer to take in the panoramic views at a more gentle, leisurely pace. For other memorable excursions as well as to stock up on conveniences, the caravan park also gives you easy access to The Isle of Skye and the town of Kyle, which boasts a busy harbour and tasty local treats as well as charming shops for you to sample. The site is ideally located of exploring many castles including Eilean Donan (one of the most recognised castles in Scotland) and Dunvegan Castle. All in all the area makes for a refreshing break away from everyday.

    Eilean Donan castle

    Welcome to Eilean Donan Castle

    Eilean Donan is recognised as one of the most iconic images of Scotland all over the world. Situated on an island at the point where three great sea lochs meet, and surrounded by some majestic scenery, it is little wonder that the castle is now one of the most visited and important attractions in the Scottish Highlands.

    Although first inhabited around the 6th century, the first fortified castle was built in the mid 13th century and stood guard over the lands of Kintail. Since then, at least four different versions of the castle have been built and re-built as the feudal history of Scotland unfolded through the centuries.
    Eilean Donan - canmore

    Partially destroyed in a Jacobite uprising in 1719, Eilean Donan lay in ruins for the best part of 200 years until Lieutenant Colonel John MacRae-Gilstrap bought the island in 1911 and proceeded to restore the castle to its former glory. After 20 years of toil and labour the castle was re-opened in 1932.

    There are four generations of the MacRae family past, present and future who are still the Constables of Eilean Donan Castle today.
    You can explore nearly every part of the castle and enjoy a journey through the history of the area.

    Glenfinnan

    Hoped to see the bridge, used in the Harry Potter movies. All parking places were full and we ended at the little train station, blocking the traffic. Have seen the train but had no time to make a picture. As we couldn't park anywhere and had to wait 3.5 hours for the next train, we decided to go further to our next camping place

    Scattered along the main road, Glenfinnan is situated at the head of Loch Shiel which stretches south west for 20 miles to Acharacle.
    Glenfinnan attracts many thousands of visitors from around the world to experience the stunning scenery but also the special atmosphere. The famous Glenfinnan viaduct carries the railway to Glenfinnan Station across a 1,000 ft span, 100 ft above the ground. The Jacobite steam train runs from here to Fort William and Mallaig in summer months with regular trains available the rest of the year.

    The filming of the second and third Harry Potter books, Harry Potter and the Chambers of Secret and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban took place in this area with the Hogwarts Express calling at Glenfinnan! In August every year, on the Saturday closest to 19 August, the Glenfinnan Gathering and Games take place.

    Another must-see is the Glenfinnan Monument and Visitor Centre, which commemorates the Jacobite clansmen who fought and gave their lives in support of Charles Edward Stuart, often called "Bonnie Prince Charlie".
