  • Devil of a time

    2 gennaio 2022, Australia ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

If you want to visit a sanctuary that is helping the wild Tasmanian devil population and get up close and personal with these crazy characters then this they place for you. They have hand raised devils for breading and a nursery for the babies who will be released. We got there nice and early so the adults were pretty active. The babies not so much.

They also have other native animals that have been rescued but their injuries make it impossible to be released back to the wild.

Well worth a trip and you know your money is helping wildlife in the area.

  • Deloraine Detour

    2 gennaio 2022, Australia ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

We didn’t plan on going to Deloraine but with a light flashing on the dash about flat tyres this was the closest place we could find to sort it on a Sunday.

We are really glad we did though, the Main Street is full of little sculptures and the park that runs along the river is worth a wander. Large sculptures either side, a train museum and suspension bridge.Leggi altro

  • Wombling Wombats

    2 gennaio 2022, Australia ⋅ ⛅ 12 °C

Rather than using the shuttle bus we decided to drive in after 6pm, hoping we would see more wildlife out and about. Our first walk was the Rainforest Walk, super short walk and wheelchair friendly. Then crossed the street for the Enchanted Walk. On our way back to the car we stumbled across our first wombat😀 he was so chilled he actually jumped the fence and started heading towards me. 😳

    Accommodation: Discovery Parks dorm room.

  • Mackintosh Dam & Zeehan

    3 gennaio 2022, Australia ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

Travelling from Cradle Mountain we stopped off at Mackintosh Dam and Zeehan.

Zeehan is a weird little town that had a couple of great old buildings from when this town was big in mining silver.

After a quick walk the Main Street we headed to the Spray Tunnel, a relic from the mines. The drive there is really beautiful and the tunnel itself is only 100m long so an easy walk.

We stopped off at the Pioneer Cemetery which was only used from 1891 to 1930 and is one of the strangest cemeteries I have been to. It is completely overgrown and seems to go on forever. As you walk around and look through the scrub you can see the tips of headstones, trees growing through the graves and the remnants of timber crosses.
