Korcula - Part 1

It’s early Sunday morning here on beautiful Korcula, one of the many island jewels of the Adriatic Sea.

We arrived on Thursday afternoon and we are leaving today on the 10.10 ferry to the island of Hvar. Though our time on Korcula has been not quite three full days, it’s so relaxing here it feels longer.

We are staying in a great little studio, with a balcony view and a 2 minute walk down to a lovely little pebblestone beach with clear calm waters turning from turquoise to deep blue … Our slice of heaven is ‘très tranquille’ and less than 10 minutes walk to the centre of the exquisite Old Town.

As well as enjoying the Old Town, we have spent plenty of time in and on the water. One of the highlights was our Fish and Fun boat trip. There were just six others in our group - a couple around our age from Vancouver, a mother and daughter from England and Washington and a young Serbian / American couple on their honeymoon.

Our skipper Max (a university student in Dubrovnik when not working the summer) was a great host. We had a fabulous four hour trip, swimming and snorkelling in tranquil bays, visiting Badija Island with its 15th century Franciscan monastery, and feasting on grilled sea bass, cooked expertly by Max on the grill on the back of the boat. What a treat. 😎

I had planned to write more about Korcula … but it’s time to start the day, and get packing. Hopefully the photos and videos give a sense of this special place.

We will be staying two nights in Hvar Town which will certainly be much busier than Korcula. I hope we can handle the pace. In any case we plan to visit Stari Grad on the other side of the island which reads more like our speed. 😎
