    Hvar Town, Hvar Island

    It was blowing a gale when we left Korcula this morning, for our 90 minute trip to Hvar Town. The large ferry was packed, but some were going on to Split.

    We arrived in Hvar Town around 11.45 and headed straight to Seaview Rooms, which is on the quieter end of the waterfront and just 50 metres from where we docked. I had been in touch with the kind owner a few days ago and she said to come when we arrived; we could leave our bags and she’d have the room ready as early as she could. So we dropped off our bags, had a first stroll around the nearby parts of the town and returned about an hour later and settled into our room, with our sea view 😎

    Then it was time for lunch. We decided to turn left along the waterfront rather than return to the busier main area of town. A short stroll later we found a cafe that looked ideal, lots of shade and near a small pebbled beach. Yummy salads followed. After lunch and a brief refresh back in our room, we braved the heat and revisited the main town more thoroughly including the other side of the harbour and beyond.

    First impressions. A lively and colourful town, with quite a different vibe to Korcula … seems busier but not too crowded so far, groups of young holidaymakers that we didn’t see in Korcula, more sightseeing groups, more and larger boats including enormous luxury cruisers, more trendy and expensive shops, more high end restaurants. Hvar has a reputation as more of a party town. Let’s see what we discover when we go out for an evening stroll and dinner … it is a Sunday but I suspect in summer, even the end of summer, every day is the same here 😎

    Happily, Korcula and Hvar share that gorgeous clear calm Adriatic water … right in front of us and around every turn. 🩵💙🩵    Read more
