• Day 33

    Australia! Sydney CBD

    March 6 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 77 °F

Today we were stoked to make it safely to Sydney and explore the city!

We started the afternoon crossing halfway out onto Sydney Harbor Bridge to get good views of the harbor, followed by climbing to the top of Observatory Hill, giving us panoramic views of the city, Sydney Opera house, and Sydney Harbor Bridge.

Following this we went to the top of Sydney Tower, which was a giant viewing tower in the heart of the city similar to Auckland’s. The big difference here was that Sydney has much larger buildings, so we didn’t feel quite as high!(and had even more to look at)

After Sydney Tower we traversed the Botanic Gardens to get to the Opera House. Chels loved the Botanic Gardens as they were filled with birds like Cockatoos and Parrots. The cockatoos were actually native to Australia and quite loud and prolific!

Upon making it to the Opera House we had dinner at the Opera Bar underneath, which was a super cool indoor / outdoor venue with open seating filled with hundreds of people. We were seated outside and quickly switched to indoor seating when a torrential downpour started. The weather in Sydney is quite fickle, and it’s shocking to see how quickly it goes from bright sun to pouring rain and back again!

To close out the evening we saw the opera Candide at the Opera House. This was a hilarious show, sung fully in English that was a parody of historical and modern life and philosophy.
