• The Blue Mountains

Today we took a day trip to the Blue Mountains, which are a mountain range West of Sydney. The mountains are characterized by large mountains surrounding massive forested valleys. It looked like the Grand Canyon with trees!

We opted to take the train to get there, which was a two hour ride one way, and we used the time on the train to work on planning some of our upcoming Asia travels. The train drops travelers in Katoomba, which directly borders the massive valleys and is atop part of the mountain range.

We walked from Katoomba’s rail station to the first scenic lookout over the massive valleys, and from there did a scenic walk around the perimeter, where we were treated to many more scenic lookouts, waterfalls, and beautiful jungle scenery.

Following our scenic walk, we enjoyed Vietnamese food in the heart of katoomba before training back to Sydney. One funny thing about the city and station is that the whole area is full of cockatoos, which are actually native to Australia. These birds loved to land all over buildings, and would actually pull wood siding off with their beaks! They were gorgeous, but appeared to be quite the nuisance for the locals 😂

We did a night walk through Sydney on our way home, and explored the sights of Sydney at night(it was incredibly busy on a Friday, and we loved how lively it was).
