• Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary

    16 marzo, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 84 °F

Today, we traveled to Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, and checked out so many types of native Australian species- this was a treat for both of us!!

We started our day with a new breakfast spot by our hotel(The Coffee Club) before heading out to Lone Pine. We opted to try out their bus system, and were super impressed. Just like the ferry, the bus was 50 cents for as long of a ride as you wanted, and it dropped us off right at the door of the sanctuary. Inside we found the huge fruit bats we’d seen in Cairns, as well as many exhibits with native birds like the parrots and cockatoos we’d seen in Cairns.

There was also a huge platypus exhibit, which was really fun as neither Chels nor Chris had seen one before. Right next to the playpus enclosure there were a ton of koala enclosures, so we observed them primarily eat and sleep. These guys were so lazy that they looked like they were passed out drunk in some cases(limbs hung all over the place, and they couldn’t be bothered to even get comfortable!).

Following the koalas we ventured into a massive outdoor enclosure housing at least 20-30 kangaroos. Here we were able to feed, touch, and admire the kangaroos. They were quite used to human attention, and basically just lounged around. Unless you had food, in which case they would eat it and then lounge around 😂

We checked out a dingo exhibit following the kangaroos, and were blown away by how cute they were!

Following the dingos we saw all sorts of reptiles, such as snakes and fresh water crocodiles(much smaller than the saltwater crocs we saw in the wild).

The Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary was a real treat, and a very relaxing day. We rounded out the adventure with a bus ride home, and Indian food by our hotel at Indian Room.

    Tomorrow we fly to Uluru!
