• Mt. Lofty Summit, Exploring Adelaide

    March 27 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 77 °F

Today we explored Adelaide and hiked to the Summit of Mt. Lofty for views of the city.

We started our morning exploring Adelaide Central Market, which is a massive indoor market filled with vendors. There were vendors for all sorts of grocery items like fruit, meat, and cheese, as well as vendors for snacks and meals. Chelsea settled for a smoothie, and Chris had breakfast pizza!

After exploring the market we caught a bus to the outskirts of town, and then did a two mile hike to the summit of Mt. Lofty. There is a massive obelisk at the top used for surveying purposes, as this is the highest point in the mountain range.

Following the hike, we bussed back into town, and explored a number of museums in the downtown core.

First we explored the Museum of Discovery or MOD, checking out exhibits on dreaming, death, and consciousness. These were interactive exhibits which was really neat. Next we explored the Art Gallery of South Australia, which had some excellent modern and ancient art mixed together. Later we explored the State Library of South Australia which was a very storied building with many ancient books lining the shelves that you could pick up and read(many 100 year old plus books!). The library also housed a number of even older books from the 1700’s in display cases. Following the library, the final museum we explored was the South Australia Museum, which had interesting exhibits showing many types of animal and marine life from across the world.

After the museums, we headed to Glenelg beach for dinner and to explore the coast.
For dinner we had Nepalese food at Sherpa Kitchen and Bar which we both loved!(excellent flavor) Then we explored the beach and pier, before wrapping the night up with Gelato and heading home.

As a final note, one thing we learned today was not to take mass transit during rush hour! We ended up finding ourselves faced with completely full busses, delayed busses, and hour waits. We will be taking this learning to our next cities!
