Lago Di Sorapis and Forcella Marcoira

Today we ventured to Lago Di Sorapis and Forcella Marcoir, hiking 9.5 miles and

We started our day with breakfast at our apartment, and then headed to a local cafe for a quick cappuccino. After that we hit the road to try and get to our hike early.

Despite our best efforts, when we arrived at our hiking location the parking lot was completely full, and cars were parked all over the sides of every street. Eventually we found a spot half a mile away from our destination, so we hiked to our hike 😂

We started our hike at Forcella Marcoir. This started as a relatively easy hike that was heavily forested, and midway through we got some epic views. At this point we were also faced with a sheer uphill rock scramble. We’d expected this part to be difficult, but realized we would be doing more rock climbing than hiking for a significant portion of the mountain. We took this part cautiously and slow, and eventually made it to the mountain’s peak.

From here we hiked down, and this side was less steep. Eventually we made our way to Lago Di Sorapis which is a beautiful piercing blue lake. We stopped at the nearby rifugio for a bite to eat and drinks, and then headed to the lake to marvel at its piercing blue color and take some photos. After enjoying the lake, we finished the remainder of our hike, and then hiked back to our car.

We had leftovers of Chelsea’s awesome carbonara from last night for dinner, and enjoyed a bottle of Lambrusco to celebrate our hiking achievements.Read more
