• Mountain biking in Grizedale

    July 9, 2025 in England ⋅ ☁️ 68 °F

Today we ventured into the Grizedale area for some mountain biking, and had a bit of a situation on the trails.

We started our day with a full English Breakfast at the Hazelmere, which included beans, eggs, bacon, bread, etc. It was quite the start to the morning!

Following the breakfast, we had big plans for mountain biking in Grizedale. We all drove out there, and rented gear, before heading out on the trails. This area had a TON of trails to choose from, and Ben ventured off on his own to take some of the more challenging paths. The rest of the group took the fire roads to climb the mountain, and then experimented on some of the moderate single track trails.

We were having a blast with the biking, and got some absolutely epic views. On our way back to the bike drop off Ellie had a slip up climbing one of the gravel paths and accidentally braked with her front tire only(brakes front and back are reversed in the UK). Unfortunately Ellie slipped off her bike and put her knee straight into some sharp gravel. Upon inspecting it we saw she’d sliced it to the bone, and the cut was quite wide, so we called for the mountain bike company to pick her up and give her a lift back to our cars. William and Brian took Ellie to Barrow-In-Furness where Ellie was able to experience the UK’s free socialized medicine. She got five stitches and an X-ray, for a grand total of $0!

While Ellie was getting medical care, Chelsea cooked carbonara and veggies for the family at home(one of the recipes she perfected in Italy). After dinner we called it a night, as we were all a bit stressed after Ellie’s fall and ready for some rest.
