Scenic drive to Oslo

Today we drove from Gjendesheim to Oslo, taking the Valdresflye scenic drive route.

We started our day with sleeping in, as we didn’t get in last night until quite late. After our numerous turnarounds due to blocked roads that we mentioned yesterday, we finally found one that was open, but due to it being at a high elevation found ourselves in a snow storm. This caused us to turn around yet again and take a highway at a lower elevation. Needless to say we were slow to get moving this morning, and we drank lots of caffeine!

After breakfast we did a quick lap of the town we were staying in, and then started the Valdresflye scenic drive route. Our first stop was Gjende, which was a beautiful blue lake hemmed in by mountains. It was insanely windy, so we didn’t stay long!

Our next stop was Vargebakkane, which was a lovely viewpoint that gave us a panoramic view of the countryside at this higher elevation. Next we visited Steinplassen, which was a large rock naturally stacked on top of another rock!

The rest of the scenic drive was picturesque, and we didn’t make any further stops, continuing on to Oslo. Upon arriving, we took it very easy, getting some trip planning and relaxing done at the hotel. Tomorrow we fly to Istanbul!Read more
