    Exploring Petra

    Today we explored the ancient city of Petra!

    We started the day with a phenomenal breakfast at our hotel, and then took their shuttle to the entrance of Petra. We reached Petra via the Siq, which was an extremely long slot canyon that was incredibly beautiful to look at. After rounding countless bends, we saw Petra’s Treasury before us and were blown away!

    We hiked through the city and passed countless homes in the Facades area. Eventually we reached the Roman amphitheater(the only amphitheater carved in stone in the world!) and the colonnaded area where Romans built their own district within the city when they took over.

    Following this we hiked up to the monastery, which was a massive trek with 800 steps that was quite steep. The locals rode past us on donkeys constantly offering to sell us a spot on a donkey and avoid the climb 😂

    The monastery was absolutely picturesque when we reached it, and we enjoyed the view before hiking up to multiple higher overlooks for additional perspectives.

    After the monastery we hiked past the Royal tombs, and then up above them for a view of the treasury building from above. Then we headed back down and to the treasury for a second time, admiring the change in the color of the light on the building as the sun changed position.

    Eventually we headed back out from the Petra complex, and enjoyed the museum just outside. Afterwards we shuttled back to the hotel where we enjoyed a fantastic dinner filled with local foods, in addition to a perfect sunset over the mountains.    Läs mer
