    The Dead Sea

    Today we drove from Petra to the Dead Sea, the lowest point on Earth!

    We started our day with another fantastic breakfast at our hotel, and then our driver picked us up for our 3.5 hour drive north to the Dead Sea. Our driver was fantastic, and opted to take us the scenic way. On the way we stopped first at Little Petra, which was a suburb of Petra where traders on the Silk Road would stop on their way to Petra. Little Petra was much smaller than the main complex, but it was cool seeing some new rock carved buildings there.

    After Little Petra we headed into and over the mountains, where we were greeted with views of the sand dunes of the desert and picturesque views of the mountains melting into a sea of dunes. As we continued on we eventually were able to see Israel, and we drove along the border of Israel and Jordan for quite some time.

    Eventually we reached the Dead Sea and our lodging for the night. We settled in, and then headed down to the Dead Sea where we floated in the water. The water was so salty that we could sit or lay back without moving at all and we wouldn’t sink in the slightest! Chelsea opted to rub the Dead Sea mud on her body for its alleged healing properties as well!

    After enjoying the Dead Sea we jumped in the hot tub, and then enjoyed the sunset. Soberingly, we actually saw Israel conducting air strikes on Gaza from across the Dead Sea. After sunset we settled in for the night, with us heading to Jordan’s capital Amman tomorrow.    Read more
