    Exploring Jerash

    Today we visited Jerash, and explored the Roman ruins there.

    We started our day with another huge breakfast spread, and then caught an Uber to the city of Jerash roughly an hour from Amman. We visited Jerash to see the best preserved Roman ruins outside of Rome, and we weren’t disappointed in the slightest with the magnificent buildings we found there.

    The ruins in Jerash were framed by massive Roman arched gates at either end of a huge complex, with a colonnaded walk leading between them, and temples, a stadium, and two amphitheaters sitting in the complex itself. The stadium was in good condition, and apparently they had gladiator fights and chariot races there. What was really astounding was the condition of the amphitheaters. Both of these were pristine for their age, and frankly were in better condition than much of the ruins we saw in Rome.

    We really enjoyed our time exploring the ruins, but given it was super hot we headed back to Amman after a few hours. Once back at the hotel we made use of the spa facilities again before packing and calling it an early night. Tomorrow we head to Cairo!    Meer informatie
