Shirakawago II

I was quite looking forward to visiting Shirakawago again. The last time I was there with Arvin and Roy, the place was a winter wonderland, now's a good chance for me to see what it's like without all the snow.

To be perfectly honest, it was still beautiful but not as impressive back in winter. We crossed the same bridge before we went our separate ways as I was going to take Jake up a hike to see the village from above. It was a short one but Jake seemed to be out of breath when we arrived at the top which was funny because I thought the hike was simply like walking. I took him to the overview and beyond that hoping to get to that blocked lookout that I once took the boys before. We bought some ice cream but turns out it was already closed for the day.

Oh well, we had our ice cream as we hiked back down. I found on the map that there was wooden walkway so we backtracked so I could get on there. Jake wanted to try this clear pudding thing which was on the way to the Three Houses so I led the way until he dropped out to hang with the rest of my family. I went on ahead to check out Shirakawa Hachiman Shrine again, it's just not the same without snow. I walked the familiar path leading to the Three Houses, what once was layered snow turned out to be terraced farms. Still, I think I got better shots of the Three Houses this time around with more space to walk around with in getting the right angle.

On the way back, I took another small hike through a forest that led to the back of the shrine. I saw my family heading back and caught up with them. We crossed the bridge together and went down to the river to take some more photos before heading back to Nagoya.

Back at Nagoya, we were first supposed to go to Saizeriya, a restaurant we went to back when they visited me in Tokyo last year. It was Friday night though so everything was jam-packed. We walked around and found a seafood restaurant that I must say was absolutely amazing all around. Great and fresh seafood and the fried rice was much loved by my dad.Læs mere
