We spent four nights off grid at a CL site next to the Kennet and Avon Canal. The sun shone for the whole period, however just after we arrived we were subjected to a short but spectacular hail storm.
We wandered into Trowbridge, along the canal, on the afternoon of our arrival in search of a fabric shop that we had been to one time previously - but is no longer there. Trowbridge was nice enough, but not somewhere we would rush back to.
Kirsty came over on Friday, and we drove into Bath where we enjoyed a lovely lunch at a Turkish restaurant prior to raiding the sewing shop on Charles Street. Much excitement for the ladies in wedding planning mode..
On Saturday we walked into Melksham along the canal, expecting to find a very quaint town nestling on the river - we were a little disappointed. Not to worry the canal tow path provided plenty of late season brambles to harvest on our return.
On Sunday we walked into Bradford upon Avon, along the canal, in glorious sunshine. Some narrowboat owners were out titivating their craft with great pride. The canal was quite busy with leisure travellers.
The canal sides were all very peaceful and relaxed, and we have resolved to find a few more canal side sites to visit in the coming weeks leading up to the new year.Read more
