To Mull today and National Youth Choir

      August 20, 2023 in Scotland ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

Away to the island of Mull today via Caledonian ferries...a stunning voyage out and quickly back, just a bit shorter than I had "imagined" ... I need to do more than imagine if I want to see all I dream of seeing... The day promised to be a mish mash of weather and so it turned out. Mostly tho the sun managed to keep shining for the journey.

Reflecting on the vanishing shoreline of Oban, Islands slipped by with strange rock forms standing out, a lighthouse white with clouds in the background promising to fade it into oblivion. I reminisced about the journey once before with Mary-Ellen, Macayla and James, how excited we all were....reaching Iona at night, grappling our way round a fence, James clinging to my legs, as we reached our highland accommodation for the night.

I stayed on board to make the journey back, glad of a short day of walking, being on the sea and grateful for safe travelling mercies . A quick trip to the information centre to see about my journey to Iona tomorrow and again I was walking to the old Parish church at the other end of the road.

Going to hear The National Youth choir, giving a one night concert, conducted by Christopher Bell. An amazingly entertaining chap on his own, he conducted those youth with such charming, fun and precision I was awestruck by the dazzlingly outstanding, goosebump making performances. Sopranos, altos, Bass's all joining to reach crescendos with spine chilling ease and wonder.

The choice of songs and hymns also helped to make the evening go too quickly and even after a rousing standing ovation we were not privy to another song such was the energy expenditure during the show. Another magical event and day.

On my way back to the hostel I walked with another pilgrim from New Zealand. We stopped at a supermarket to get a few things for dinner and then caught in a downpour as we made our way homeward..my walking companion took my grocery items to allow me to use my walking sticks on the way home. Another angel sent to help.
