Tregothnan Estate

After yesterdays rain, the weather was perfect today and we had a fantastic day.

We went to Tregothnan Estate, home of the Lords Falmouth for 700 years. It has the U.K's only tea plantation and tea production was explained to us. We started in the village of Coombe and walked through woodlands, past farm cottages and on tracks that have been used by villagers and farmers since the Norman times. Abwarten und Scrabble Spielen

Das Wetter treibt einen die Tränen in die Augen. Doch es hilft alles nichts. Wir warten ab. Wir warten und hoffen, dass sich etwas tut. Dass wir die Chance bekommen, einigermaßen entspannt in Richtung Süden segeln zu können. Doch wir warten erstmal weiter. Wir basteln am Boot. Wir lecken vergangene Wunden. Wir überlegen, wie wir noch seetauglicher, noch besser angepasst werden können. Wir ziehen neue Kabel. Wir bauen mehr Scharniere an. Wir halten Rücksprache mit Experten von SVB und Hahnfeld Masten und setzen Empfehlungen um.
Wir schauen unseren Harry Potter Filme Marathon weiter. Wir spielen Scrabble. Das Leben könnte schlimmer sein.
Mittlerweile liegen wir an einem
Pontoon im Fluss. In Sichtweite sind Duschen und ein kleines Café. Wir lassen es uns gut gehen. Pfannkuchen am Morgen. Kässpatzen am Abend! Ein letzter Mädelsabend :)

Leaving the Scillies

Another foggy day with a difference.
8am on the dot the Royal Yacht squadron fire a Canon across the Scillies and the flotilla of approx 20 boats, that have arrived over the past 2 days, all hoist their string of signal flags. Apparently they had all sailed here together from Cowes in order to celebrate Prince Phillips 100th birthday. It was a very pretty sight but a shame we could only see the closest few boats because of the fog.
Waiting till 11am to set off hoping the fog would clear made no difference so we headed out and slowly navigated our way around the islands before heading east across the traffic separation zones off the end of Cornwall. All in all a slow crossing but well worth it as a warm greeting and a Gin and Tonic was waiting for us on arrival at Malpas, up the river Fal.Read more

Maintenance and lazy days

A very enjoyable and peaceful 3 days in the Fal catching up with maintenance and sharing stories with fellow cruisers from Dartford over a BBQ on the pontoon.
Painted the anchor chain and spliced some additional rope onto it -let's hope i did my homework correctly when I watched the video how to splice or we could be floating of out to sea.
Falmouth classic regatta was on and we were treated to several of the old yachts sailing past. Even had a ring side view of one as it came to an abrupt halt opposite the pontoon in the mud - the tide had gone out a little faster than expected!Read more
