Journeyed down to the Lea Vallley - strategic point for visits to London just outside emissions zone.
Cycled up the Lea Valley to Waltham Abbey and onwards up to Ware (Where you might say - Indeed) - a nice enough little town on the Lea Navigation.
Great cycling through the Lea Valley.
Visited the remains of Waltham Abbey (EH) worth a short visit but not a major detour. The river here was covered in algae - had trouble picking out the moorhen chicks in the murk.

Extended our stay here for reasons that will become apparent.
Took transport into London - bus, rail overland, docklands light railway, river bus then tube through the day to see the The Cutty Sark, Maritime Museum, Royal Observatory, Greenwich Park and a covered market in Greenwich to boot. Cutty Sark very interesting, with lots of school groups charging around being reprimanded by their teachers. How lovely it is to be retired and not part of that any more!!!!Read more

Spent a lazy morning here and had a wander along the Lea Valley Navigation
Following day cycled into London to take in more sights.
Took in the new piece of artwork on The Serpentine which is apparently supposed to make you think of something but we are not sure what.. The artist, apparently, is very happy for you to think about anything at all which is very nice of him.
Also took in Aspley House and the Wellington Arch which are worth a visit - full of interesting artworks and info surrounding the Battle of Waterloo.Read more

Stayed here yet another day because we had the joyous news that our new grand child had emerged at 4:32 this morning.
We had to stay to see her - Jemima Jane - a new sister to Magnus.
Magnus is very pleased as you can see but a little suprised that Jemima will not play with all his trucks just yet.
We spent a little time with Stewart and Emily before leaving to enjoy a marvellous meal at Gokyuzu in Walthamstow. A very busy restaurant - not suprising - food was excellent.Read more

Traveler Wonderful news. Many congratulations to you all. So glad you are having a fab time. We are currently in Abbywood near London in the new motorhome that finally arrived last Friday. We csmnip to London for my brother's sixtiest birthday bash. I don't know if you have ever stayed here but it's a great site with really easy links into London. Have a great time at Latitude. Sorry we will miss you, but we must catch up on the road somewhere soon. Zxx

Making our way up to Suffolk for the festival next week. Compulsory stop at London to see Jemima and family.
We noticed that all previous postings about Lea Valley were erroneous as the River is the River Lee not Lea so apologies for misspelling.
Stew did a great fish bbq with Bream and King Prawns - very tasty.
Temperatures in back garden blistering - birthing pool came in very handy.
Jemima has changed and we enjoyed some lovely cuddles.Read more

We returned to Lee Valley for two events
We had tickets to see Hamilton at the Victoria Palace Theatre on Thursday - the matinee performance which was a full house. It was every bit as good as we were expecting it to be great music, dance, rap and hip hop - a trail blazer which others are going to follow.
We also had Magnus' birthday party to attend in Walthamstow - a piratical affair which S and Em had put a lot of effort into - a great afternoon. All children old and young had a good time under mild sunshine.
On Sunday we looked after Jemima and Magnus for the day as S and Em enjoyed a day out together sans children. J and M were a delight and Magnus' energy boundless.
Grandpa and M built some lego that had been given to M for his birthday - both had a great time.Read more

Walthamstow

We returned to Walthamstow so we could spend Christmas day with the family and our new grand daughter.
On Christmas Eve we walked through the Lee Valley Park in cool winter sunshine and had a wander through Waltham Abbey.
We enjoyed a wattsap conversation, in our evening, with Jamie and all the girls who had already been visited by Santa in Brisbane. Much joy over there. One envelope that had been opened over there disclosed that Jamie and Renee are expecting a new sister for Sophie and Samantha in early March. We can't wait to meet her.
Stewart picked us up early on Christmas Day and we spent a brilliant day with everyone. The Millers - Clive and Rosie had travelled from Italy and Tim from South London to join the Macleans for a big family Christmas day lunch. Prior to lunch we took a wander to the village and Magnus was pleased to be able to pick up litter with the litter pickers Santa had left for him. Jemima stayed with Emily to look after Mary or, at the very least, her own interests.
Christmas dinner was a triumph and enjoyed by all - well done to Stewart et al who beavered away whilst grandpa held the baby.
There then followed the present opening session which brought the children great joy.
We overnighted at Stew and Em's friends house 4 doors away - they were on their way to NZ - so we were all able to enjoy some festive wine. Stewart dealing out some of the more salacious media gossip added spice to the occasion.
Alan and Clive spent some time discussing a little bike ride they hope to be able to do next May - not so little!!!! John O Groats to Lansend!!!!! They will both be training in the new year in order to manage the 1000 mile ride!!!!Read more

We had promised Magnus a sleep over, which he was enormously excited about, so we returned to Walthamstow to see the family again and honour our commitment to him. After a great lunch we enjoyed a walk through Gunpowder Park with Stew, Magnus and Jemima
What a great sleep over night we had - Magnus was a treat to be with and great company - a film night with pop corn and everything - brilliant.
Magnus was a great help the following day when we gave the van a good clean prior to him being collected after lunch. We will not see Stewart and his lovely family until April, when we return from Brisbane. Mary will have changed massively by then. Already we saw changes to her (mainly in her size) since the day she was born.Read more

Cycled south on Lea Valley cycle path into Limehouse Docks and then to the Tower of London. A long ride {about 16 miles each way} but we felt good at the end.
Walked the Southbank and had a look in the Jewel Tower at the Palace of Westminster.
Anti Brexit protest outside Paliament building - very colourful. Must have been about 50 people there wrapped in the Union and EU flags. Another group alongside were campaigning for the release of a politician in Jail in Pakistan - very noisy.
Lea Valley cycle path once again very good. The last uphill climb to reach the campsite was a challenge, but we managed it!!!Read more

Walthamstow

We travelled back up here for a few days to help with Magnus and Jemima during school half term. The M25 was a complete nightmare as usual around the airport and then we heard that it had been closed in front of us. Our trip of 60 miles eventually took 4.25 hours (from Basingstoke where we had stopped to get new supplies on board - a new record.) On the plus side K was driving for the first time since her injury and the time behind the wheel has given her her confidence back. Arrived late in a squally rain shower.
We spent some great time with Magnus and Jemima.
On Saturday we stayed local, taking them into Walthamstow and the park to give Emily a break. Stewart was at work as Parliament was sitting to discuss brexit and he had a show to organise for the evening news spot.
We enjoyed a family meal in the late evening on his return after the show.
On Sunday we enjoyed family time with all the family together. K cooked a roast lunch whilst we had a brief walk around the Hackney marshes.
On Monday we took the children on the tube and bus to Battersea Park and the childrens zoo. Magnus greatly enjoyed the animals and the childrens play ground. Jemima smiled the day through.
On Tuesday we stayed in the area and hit the market on Walthamstow high street.
On Wednesday we visited Greenwich and the Cutty Sark with the children. The undercroft beneath the keel in the dry dock had a band doing African drumming and the children made their own drum at the activity table. A great day out much enjoyed by all. Magnus was so interested in everything he saw and asked question after question!!!!! He diligently wrote a list of facts learned once back home.Read more
